The last time somebody was offed in the Ongoing IDW had a four issue mini series written about them. Does this mean we are going to get more mini series focusing on dead characters?
Actually, now that I think about it IDW will shortly be releasing that zombie-based comic (I think its called Infestation). Maybe all of these characters were killed off so that this forthcoming comic could have a few characters in it!
A good issue I thought. Whether its enough to revive the franchise's fortunes after a turgid last few instalments I don't know, but this was a step in the right direction. I thought Nick's art complimented the action nicely - and it was so nice to get some action for a change rather than pages of pointless dialogue and posturing - plus the mystery character at the end was v enjoyable. Having the Matrix exert a Lord of the Rings style hold over Starscream was intriguing and at least explains why he's been content to sit on his behind on Char and do sod all for so long.
There's been a lot of talk about pointless deaths in this issue, but having read the comic I saw nothing to suggest that the characters in question are dead. It looked to me like they had been taken offline temporarily and would either recover through internal system repairs or with a bit of assistance from a medic. Nothing to get knickers in a twist about anyway.
I'd still rather see Costa shifted to the spin-offs, which suits his storytelling better IMHO, but on the evidence of this issue there is a glimmer of hope that he is taking on board fan feedback and upping his game. But the next couple of issues will be the make or break and if it doesn't work out I hope IDW will swallow its pride and reinstate Furman to the Ongoing ASAP, before the book dies a death.
He's the only writer apart from Budiansky whom has convinced me they can write a decent Transformers ongoing series.
