WHAT.
Those cheeky chappies at Palitoy reused their Death Star as an Action Force base?!
This is amazing news!

Actually I knew that. We've covered that either here or on a zoom call before now because that pod turned up somewhere else iirc. CONTINENT OF THE JAWAS! -Ralph

I know bugger all about Action Force, but having found some pictures online, it looks more like a reuse of the idea than a reuse of the actual cardboard template. It's a different shape.

Overall a worthwhile use of an hour browsing and reliving some past memories. Didn't feel a huge urge to go back to collecting those figures, the Retro line is scratching that itch, but it is a stark reminder of how good toy lines are when they have vehicles and playsets integrated into them. Yeah, but kids don't want fun play patterns, they want unreliable electronic gimmicks that'll massively inflate the price of the figures on the shelves instead. (Some exec somewhere, probably.)

WHAT. Those cheeky chappies at Palitoy reused their Death Star as an Action Force base?! This is amazing news! I still own both. (The Action Force was my brother's, BUT I STOLE IT FROM HIM AFTER WE GREW UP!) The Action Force base is arguably better than the Death Star! It kinda does more stuff and has a really good roof. But both are indeed variations on a theme and are AMAZING!!!! They go great side-by-side and although I don't have any Action Force figures anymore, their base can be occupied by, say, Jabba's goons, or Ponies, or Moshlings- and hijinks ensues!

Does the Action Force one have the trash compactor chute? Are there any shared pieces at all?

Post by Philip Ayres on Oct 30, 2023 21:58:25 GMT
Yes it does: Entrance is below the red & white bordered black sign, you can see the shape of the tunnel in the next photo: The clips that hold the uprights to the base are identical too There's several other common features, the Tie fighter door to the trash compactor/decompression chamber The illustrated base pits: And the elevated corridor of similar design Although there's a lot less materially in common that I thought but there's no mistaking the lineage between them

Yes it has a chute- can't remember where it leads, right now... The connector jobbies are the same as the Death Star, and the -I don't know how to describe it- 'windowed walkway' is the same.
The Action Forced base makes use of characters imagined on the walls like the Death Star, and also has a superb folding roof/heli-pad section, and these little moveable 'pods'.

'Elevated corridor ' is a better description than 'windowed walkway'.

I *think* it's meant to represent the Death Star Cell Block corridor and probably should have the Trash Compactor shute in it

Yes I think you're on to something there. It is funny how the cardboard Death Star tries to emulate things from the film.

I love the 'floor bed' in one of the upstairs rooms, and how a huge chunk of the ground floor is taken up by the trash compactor workings (which is essentially a secret inaccessible area). The control room is my favourite room.

Finally, finally, finally today I got a proper Black Series R2D2. The one in the current wave at long last has shipped from Pulse. There hasn't been a straightforward R2 in current circulation in this line since I started trying to put my mini collection of New Hope and Empire bits together, which was three and a half years ago when the Empire 40th stuff was coming out. There was a repaint that was in a two pack with Dagobah Luke, but that one was covered in swamp. This I think is the same as the one that was on the Jedi 40th cardback that came out earlier in the year, but that sold out on pre-orders.
I might now just be done with Black Series. I think I have what I want. CASE CLOSED.

They're good for displays, nice detail. But 3.75 is where the playsets and vehicles are.

3.75 is the correct size for action figures. The only exception is MOTU.
