"Your parents put it together." Well, that's an unusual selling point.
My cousin had a Sectaur. That advert makes them look like Fingerbobs Deluxe.
On a related note, whilst at the post office I noticed that there appeared to be a live action Silverhawks film for hire. On closer inspection it was actually something called Silver Hawk, though the character picture did make it look like it was based on the Silverhawks toys.

I remember that line from a few He-Man adverts. Weird thing to say, i know.
The best thing about the GoBots advert is the kid's face at the end. He's so smug and cocksure. Guardian victory was never in doubt, as far as he and his freckly face were concerned.

Although mis-headed (the commercials Japanese ones for "Macross" stuff rather than "Robotech" stuff). I do have a soft spot for these - classic examples of old-style stop motion mecha commercials:-

I've been looking through a lot of Go-Bots Adverts tonight, and i can see one major flaw which probably led to their demise.
They are mostly fucking awful.

Either of those two would have blown my tiny mind as a kid. The shuttle launcher more I suspect because it's still actually of a scale that a kid could play with it. In other news... Ban Dai actually had a go at a Gobot triple changer! His name? TRIPLE JIM.-Nick

Triple Jim is probably the best name I've ever heard for a transforming robot.
Apart from ApeFace, of course.

Both are glorious, though Triple Jim is a shade more awesome. I want him to appear in a Furman story.

For me the best toy from the past has to be BigTrak. It was way ahead of its time and was so popular that it lasted for several years without any kind of modification whatsoever.

Ah but toys back then did. Look at how long the original SW toys were on the shelves for. Makes a big difference to today when the selling window for a toy is so small - most SW and TFs these days are on the shelves less than a couple of months.
Longer selling window = More of each toy sold
Longer selling window = less of each toy needed at one time to break even = more different toys per case
Longer selling window = more of a chance for a child to buy the toy.

Indeed. I recall seeing/picking up Transformers toys on shop shelves several years after they came out, back in the day. Unthinkable today*.

There are a few rare exceptions among action figures like Mr Potato Head and Buzz Lightyear, and it seems like TMNT don't change their figures hugely between relaunches which seem to happen every four years or so. Power Rangers figures are all variations on a theme: "basic assortment of Rangers", "male Rangers on motorbikes" etc but each line has small cosmetic changes which means new moulds every year. They usually stick with their assortments for the whole 12 months, though.

Anyway... Here's some Starcom in the form of an internal Coleco product awareness video:

There are some Planet of the Apes figures on Ebay at the moment but they're going for about £30 each.

I do find something fascinating about these sort of vendor show-reels. (And actually, the guy that Coleco have got doing there's has more enthusiasm than some I've seen - like the Matchbox Robotech one where the bloke has an aura of "when's clocking off time?")

I don't remember the echo microphone being quite so good on my Snake Mountain. I want my money back.
