Some new homage figures have been made of earlier characters in new lines (like ROTF Bludgeon for example) now, do you class these versions of that character as a new version of the original (ie ROTF Bludgeon can be used as G1 Bludgeon as well), or as a purely new character (like how G1 Bumblebee is separate from TFA Bumblebee)
I personally accept these guys as new versions of the original character and happily use them as those characters as well
Oh just to clarify, I mean do you accept them as a new version of the original as well as them being a new character as well

If they're in a different toyline, then they're different characters. ROTF Bludgeon will not be rubbing shoulders with Henkei Megatron on my shelves, thats for sure!
Although Skystalker does make a nice 'guard' for Strax-- sorry, "Darkmount"...

Mostly I just go with what fits. Rotf Bludgeon looks good alongside the classics so it stays there until a superior model arrives. Ditto Axor.
In the cases of the Walmart movie figures including Fracture and Breakaway they were clearly designed as classics figures but packaged as movie to sell so I'm more than happy to use them as they were designed.

ROTF Hoist is good enough to be my classics Hoist.

ROTF Hoist still looks too much like a horrible monster to me. Less so than the rest of the movie line admittedly.

I keep 'em separate for the most part. ROTF Breakdown, while clearly an homage, doesn't quite look right with the Classics.
And as much as I like the look of the Movie robots, ROTF Bludgeon is too hideous looking even for me, so I never bothered with that one. But I would love to see a Classics Bludgeon one day.

Good question. Generally, if a homage figure looks like he fits into the Classics world, that he goes into that collection. In my case ROTF Bludgeon is freakin' cool, and fits in (just about!) with my Classics collection. Cybertron Soundwave is another example, I enjoy the character being a spy plane. Whereas, I had Cybertron Smokescreen for a while, but he never felt like he fit in all that much for a reason I can't put my finger on, especially when the Universe Prowl mold came out. But in short, I am more than happy to except a figeroon into my beloved Classics collection from another line, if he, in my demented opinion, fits the bill.

I mix, if its close enough to an original character that has as yet not gotten a classics figure then in they go.
