I've been waiting for someone to do a decent rendition for the Tread from Genesis Climber Mospeada (also known as the Beta Fighter in "Robotech: The New Generation" for quite a while. Some folk have a sneaking desire to own a Grand Maximus, or a wish that someone had made an Impactor toy.. Me, I'd been hoping for a Tread for a long time. And it looks like CMS are going to be the folk who make it happen:- www.hlj.com/product/CMS65132I think my buying this is next to inevitable to be honest. Fortunately I have known it was coming for a while so I could budget accordingly. The sculpt on the Legioss deviates a fair way from the line art, and the transformation is definitely not accurate to the original, and that seems to be proving a deal breaker for some. But I'll accept a bit of license on the look of the thing - it was in an eighties animation after all, by definition it was off-model almost as often as it was on. The price-point is more than a little owchy mind you. But then, it is an extremely niche product, even more so than something like "Macross" or "Patlabor" stuff, so I guess it was inevitable. I think I need to sort out a space on the display for this thing to snug into. Karl

It is extremely owchy all things considered. However, I've been salting away a "Tread acquisition fund" a little bit at a timefor the last six months or so against the day of its release. (And it has actually come in a little cheaper than I was anticipating - I was figuring it would be closer to £150 - £160).

Looks like a very nice toy, pleased they've done a version for you, Karl. I'm not familiar with the show/line though.

Looks like a very nice toy, pleased they've done a version for you, Karl. It's a very controversial toy. On one of the other forums I hang out on it is verging on (in a very polite and measured way) a divisive as "TRUKK NOT MUNKY" was for Transformers fans. A lot of people are very annoyed with the liberties it has taken with the line art. (and the fact that the other colour variations are going to be restricted distribution in various ways.) Heh, s'alright - it is a fairly obscure show from the eighties. Karl

So?? Can you give us some pictures of this thing? I am still interested in getting it - or at least one of the other color varients:) As to the ouchy price - once you start collecting Macross and Soul of Chogokin - the only thing that can make you go "ouch" is Studio Half Eye... The day I buy a Studio Half Eye product - say, perfect tranformation Getter Robo - is the day I either need to retire or sign myself into a mental asylum dyrl

So?? Can you give us some pictures of this thing? I am still interested in getting it - or at least one of the other color varients:) Regretably I can't assist with pictures, at least not in the short term as I lack a digital camera. I would have to get a disposable, take the shots, get it developed, scan the resulting pictures..... it would be a rather drawn out process. (I lack advanced recon gear unfortunately - it's some way down the list of mandated priorities) [/quote] As to the ouchy price - once you start collecting Macross and Soul of Chogokin - the only thing that can make you go "ouch" is Studio Half Eye... Once you start down the dark path of 1/60th scale VF-0's and 1/48th Valkyries it changes your perspective on pricing more than a little. I remember thinking that Masterpiece Starscream was surprisingly cheap given the scale - and then realising just what that said about the way my expectations had been conditioned.(And please don't mention Studio Half-eye, you'll only depress me - I think they were the ones that did the VF-5000 and the VF-4 that I will never be rich enough to own no matter what happens in my life). Once my exams are over I'll be happy to make my way to SDF Karloss with my camera and help you run off a full gallery of these chaps. They are amazing bits of engineering, especially for a company that hasn't been designing transforming toys for long.

I've been looking back at the records, and it seems that this wasn't done. Most probably due to a technicality - although not secret per-se, the Tread technically falls under "special operations associated units" and so the colony fleet government ordnances technically don't allow photography - even though it is public knowledge. It makes no sense, but the local law is the local law...
