The doctors are shorter packed and higher demand. Col is 1 per case - if you think that's expensive check eBay for him.

Really? We have three cases of Classic Who figures in the stock room at TRU...
Nah, I would never do that. The Cuddly Colin figures shall remain safe from scalpers while I am on patrol.

I shall be picking one up for TRU for whenever Trial of a Timelord comes out on shiny disc.
And shorter packed or not, FPG have no excuse. It would not have cost them extra to get the Doctors: they buy by the case. I've seen them take deliveries in. They are scalping, pure and simple.

Forbidden Planet are buggers for that at the moment. In my local they are charging £25 for for TFA Grimlock whilst the rest of his wave mates are still at a reasonable-ish price. They must have cottoned on to him being a more popular character. I don't even bother looking at the Doctor Who stuff in there as they are just taking the piss.

Again Grimlock is one per case (2 x Blitzwing & 1 x Lugnut) and is the more popular of the once a case toy. Makes sense.

Not when it costs the supplier to buy in no more than other figures in the range and the toy is widely available at UK retail. It's just greed.

Of course it is. That is part of how the retail mentality works - insert Gordon Gekko world-view quote of choice here. Personally I think it is a bit iffy both morally and tactically. Especially when you are going after the relatively new-fangled entity "the adult collector". Personally it annoys me, but it is up to them how they want to conduct business. They just shouldn't expect to give me the money for something marked up considerably above the going rate. (Witness the fact I haven't bought the 1/100th Valkyrie fighter they have sitting there at twice US retail). (Judging by FPE and FPG's experience it doesn't actually seem to work. Normally anything they mark up tends to sell less well or not at all, and they end up marking it down eventually. Thus the potential profit that they think they can make does not in fact exist, and they eat the extra costs involved in dead stock. But in a kind of refutation of Pavlov they seem to persist.) Karl

That does seem to be the case. When the Doctor figures were a tenner, they flew off the pegs. Now they just sit there.
I shall be putting in an order for a significantly cheaper Colin via the Agent of TRU soon!

Dear Character Options: For Wave 2 of the classic Who figures, please make a Valeyad figure (with removable hat). That is all, thankyou.

A most excellent acquisition you have there. It surely has a surefeit of splendour of multivariate hues.
I've lost track of these, can someone inform me - is their a Troughton available as yet? Because if there was any Doctor that I would feel honour bound to purchase it is the Second. After all: -
the dark corners of the toybox have bred the most terrible things. Things that act against everything we stand for. They must be fought...

Doctors 4, 5, and 6 are in this wave (rest of the wave are 2 voc robots, Magnus Greel/Mr Sin, Steve Devil, Zygon). No Docs 1, 2, 3, 7 or 8 yet.
I daresay if this wave of Classic figures does well and Character do more if would make sense for them to have a few Doctor figures in each wave so Troughton would turn up at some point. Though if Character are sensible and keep the line going, they would be pushing it to do more than 1-2 waves a year as most of the target market for Who figures are kiddies who want New Series stuff.
Incidentally, are the Classic series figures special order items? The only places I know that stock them are FP and TRU. Woolies and the like seem to just have the New Series line.

I figure we will probably seem one new Doctor a wave, given the way that Character like to get as much use out of their molds as they possibly can. By that reckoning I figure I can expect to see a Troughton in about three to four years time..... I'd agree, they would be crazy to do more than a couple of waves a year, the collector market isn't going to be large enough to support much more and the mass market - as you observe - doesn't know or care who these blokes are. Ta muchly to the rest of the Scots lads! I am now the proud owner of a Davison-Doctor figure (appropriate as he was the Doctor when I started watching) and, as you surely can't have the Doctor without a monster for him to be menaced by, there is also a Sea Devil lumbering menacingly towards him. I do love the string smock on the Sea Devil - it looks even more amusing in toy form than it does on screen. I'm not sure that they've quite captured the characteristic Davison expression though - he doesn't look quite confused enough to completely evoke the character...... He is rather good though, and even comes with a little sonic screwdriver (fortunately there aren't any Terileptils in the house to destroy it).

Speaking of Daleks, they're moving out of Toys'r'us at a rate of knots at the moment. Why?
Buy One Get One Free Weekend, that's why. Who and, logically, Peppa Pig are on offer. If anybody has been holding off on Who stuff due to price, now's the time. Just don't expect to see any Dalek voice changer helmets around- my branch sold a dozen in four hours and promptly ran out.

I was talking to a member of staff in the Birmingham brance of the Entertainer, and apparently they have hidden all the Dr Who figures at the back of the store until they find out who the new Doctor is.
I did TELL them Tennant was still going for another year, but no...

That does seem a little odd to say the least - given that Christmas is coming up they have decided that they don't want to have Doctor Who figures out to sell to the parents who might be looking for presents, all because in over thirteen months time there will be a different actor in the role. It is a rare case of a shop actually wanting to not sell product that they otherwise could.
