The most expensive Transformer I ever bought was Brave Maximus back in 2002. He was only the third Transformer I bought when I got back into collecting, and he was £80 including postage. I had to sell him through a few years ago though.
The most expensive figure(s)/set I own are the Bluster and Trench Auto Assembly exclusives last year at £65. Bought in the spur of the moment, regretted very soon after and after all the hype surrounding them and how many peopel wanted them I couldn't sell them at cost.

If a set of toys counts as one, then surely it's an FP Botcon set wins for me.
If we're only counting individuals, Gen Metroplex is probably the single most expensive piece (not accounting for inflation).

Probably the Trypticon reissue, with MP Soundwave coming in second.
The biggest "step-up" I made, which tipped me into paying more for single TF purchases, was the first Predaking reissue, which I think came to around £90 all-in. Up til then I'd been buying relatively small stuff with the occasional import for things like TFC reissues.

Wow. Now *this* is a question that I didn't want to answer. Mainly because over the years there's been the inevitable, upward slide of prices. And I've gotten used to them. This is dangerous.
For a long time, my most expensive Transformer - all in - was Brave Maximus, which I ordered back in 2001. Thanks to the cost of the Yen against the Pound, the toy itself was only £60, which was amazing. But shipping was the same again, because, you know, big lump of plastic.
But, as I say, the prices have been slowly creeping up. Although I have various Masterpieces, I've always had agents import them for me from the colonies, or waited for sales in Toysaurus, so I've never paid the full pound price for them. My AA purchase of PE Guardian last year was thus my single most expensive purchase, for the figure only... until MP Star Saber. Who cost... more. (And I can't find the billing information to actually find out exactly how much.)
And thus, slowly, but inevitably, I descend up the slippery slope of spending...

Descend? Up? Are you from some mad land of Escher? My head hurts. Well, I *am* the six-winged god of llamas. So, you know... Also I think that that more accurately depicts my changing attitude towards funding my hobby. ;-)

Most expensive Transformer: Grand Maximus. About £150. Victory Saber was a bit less because my Star Saber is knackered. Most expensive non-Transformer: Might Gaine Perfect Mode giftset. Thought I was getting a deal picking it up for about £80 on Yahoo Japan, then the proxy service needed £90 postage to send it over in a fridge box full of surprisingly heavy packing material! Then it was another £30-odd CUTA! Most expensive single 3P Purchase: see Andy Turnbull's answer. I sold mine to him. Most expensive 3P set: Feral Rex. £345, and that was shopping around as much as possible. Plus £10 for the nail extensions. Don't judge me.

Plus £10 for the nail extensions. Don't judge me. -Nick As far as I can tell (from working in a team of mostly women in my last job) £10 isn't a bad price to pay for nail extensions, so I see no reason to judge. My most expensive Transformers toy remains Overlord at £90.00. My most expensive mecha toy - and the most expensive single thing I have bought other than half a house - is my YF-19, at £230.00 (nearer £250 counting customs charges). But seeing as that was my fortieth birthday present to myself - postponed from being my thirtieth birthday present to myself - I don't regret a single moment. *Whoops like Isamu Dyson, zooms off into the blue sky* Karl

I think mine would be MP11 Skywarp, which came in at £140. Which I know is an absolutely ridiculous price for a repaint of a mould that we've been able to get for as low as £35, but it was Skywarp done properly. I think the SDCC Dinobot playset was more than that, but that's five toys. As is Warbotron Bruticus, which I think all in was about £340. That set will be eclipsed by the Fans Toys Dinobots eventually, which so far have been about £125 each. Swoop was a bit less.

Ah, well 3P stuff aren't actually 'Transformers' so if it helps technically it means you haven't spent as much on Transformers toys as you think!

I don't believe I've ever bought a 3P toy.
Oh, wait, the AA exclusive Topspin guy a couple of years back. Nevermind. As you were.

£68 for a MIB Road Caesar in 1997. £67 for MIB Leozak in 2005 £60 for MIB Drillhorn in 2006 are the only ones that come close.

I would say it is far truer than your usual "Obi Wan evasion"... :-)
It has just occurred to me that I actually do own a third party item - the Energon Superion upgrade set, which is a fine example if an aftermarket enhancement.
