Heya, boys'n'girls!
A few weeks back my brother and I realised that 2012 will mark the 25th anniversary of Death's Head. We thought it would be nice to celebrate this momentous occasion in some way, perhaps in the form of a fan-mag. Then of course Simon's Williams and Furman took the wind out of our sails somewhat by announcing his actual return to UK comics, and then there was an Underbase podcast focussing on Simon's unnofficial Hulk Vs Death's Head work, in which there was a tremendous amout of gushing over the freelance peace-keeping agent. So it feels somewhat like bandwagon jumping.
Anyway, after talking about this a little with Graham and Andy it seems more and more like a decent idea. But before we start setting up any hard and fast rules or guidelines I thought I'd gauge interest with you 'orrible lot.
Right now the idea is perhaps for something along the lines of 2009's T-25 mag, with features and articles contributed by our community. Would anybody be interested in participating in such an endevour? What kind of features do you think would be fun?
If the idea proves popular and we get enough ideas to work with, then we'll start talking pagecounts and deadlines, etc. I will say that the ultimate goal would be for an AA 2012 release.

I would be happy to contribute something. Possibly a text story. In The Incomplete DH, we last see him being dragged into the TARDIS by the 7th Doctor so I'd be interested in following up that angle.

So we have a bit of prose, Andy has expressed interest in a short strip, and we have a publisher. Matt, any suggestions as to what you're thinking?

WELL UP FOR THIS Deaths Head is a big fav of mine Might I also suggest we run what we do by Furman if we can like Williams did...that sort of feedback would be super!!
Not saying we must, but I know hoe protective Furman is over that particular property

Have no fear; I intend to get in touch with Mr. Furman about this project before we start anything proper.

Has anyone ever written the origin of Death's Head?
If not, I'd be interested in writing a story about a couple of Transformers arguing about various theories of who he is and where he comes from. (Leaving it open in the end.) Any good?
Ooh! It could even feature TMUK favourite Blot, seeing as DH had dealings with him.

He was given an origin story, yes... but there weren't really any witnesses to it and I doubt it would harm the spirit of such a tale... It is looking very much like this is going to be a prose-heavy book. I'm sure that some of our talent pool of sharpened pencils will be cool with providing support illustrations to those who need it.

If there is still room in this project for another contributor I have an idea for a small fiction piece featuring our favourite Freelance Peacekeeping specialist. I am open to discussion on whether it is done as a prose piece or as a strip story (pending a willing penciller being available of course).

As already said I'd bag a strip. I will rope Ralph in helping me with dialogue and the like (as is traditonal) featuring Death's Head in a bar fight with another famous Bounty-Hunter type.

A friend from elseplaces has shown an interest in illustrating as well, if anybody writing a prose piece would like an accompaniment.

Hmmm. Death's Head's origin according to Wikipedia: His mechanoid body had originally been constructed to host the life energy of the techno-mage Lupex, a psychotic who hunted beings for sport and stole their bodies upon killing them. However, a woman named Pyra, who wished to steal Lupex's secrets, ultimately decided to use the mechanoid body against him. She gave it a cold and calculating business-like mind, but before it could be used against Lupex, the body was stolen by an unknown party, enlarged to the size of the Cybertronians, and catapulted through time. Death's Head was used as a pawn by Pyra, who wished to get him to a point where he could kill Lupex, while Lupex begun to hunt Death's Head with the intention of gaining his body. Driven to his mental limits and nearly killed, he eventually was able to kill Lupex and, refusing to be anything like his "father", killed him quickly while declaring he "kill only for profit or survival!".
In the final issue of the Incomplete Death's Head, the Doctor claims to have been responsible for sending Death's Head to the Transformers universe. Despite being a manipulative being, especially in his seventh incarnation, it could be that this claim is false. There is nothing else within Death's Head's history to substantiate this claim. Hmmm. I don't really find any of that interesting enough to work with. But having just re-read some of the Death's Head Transformers stories, I do think I'd enjoy writing something in which he doesn't actually appear in person, but which has various Transformers discussing him. For example, Blot, or the Autobot DH decapitated in the trench in Headhunt (after being re-connected to his body) who may be pondering why both the Autobots and Decepticons, with all the talent in their massed ranks, have to hire outside the species to get important jobs done - and forgive past hostile acts by the mercenary in question. Or Cyclonus and Scourge, wondering why warriors created by Unicron are no match for such a mechanoid. Or characters speculating about what he spends his money on... Yes, that could be a pleasant diversion. Martin

The Death's Head origin does sound stupid, but is actually pretty decent. It is republished in the... 2nd Death's Head trade Titan released (I think it is the second one)

I don't care for the origin, personally. It feels like it's from an entirely different series. Lovely art though.
