I just think Hasbro went over board with classics in the last 12 months. They did at least twice as many deluxes as in Universe and probably 3 or more time as many as the classics line. And then there was the rest of the movie figures and PCC. I'm glad we got them all and they must do well for Hasbro to continually expand the line, but it was an awful lot of toys. WFC Prime WFC Megatron WFC Bumblebee WFC soundwave Darkmount Skullgrin Thrust Dirge Thundercracker Drift Blur Red Alert Jazz Tracks Wheeljack G2 Prime Wreck Gar Perceptor Kup Warpath I'm sure thats not a complete list but in under 9 months (since AA) that's 20 toys I have or will buy and the cost will be at least £200.
Good for Hasbro not so good for me. Could have done with them spread over a full year. So yeah longer shelf life.

I recall when figures were on sale for years, not just a few weeks!

Don't forget there was that horrid gap up until July where nothing new came out, just so Hasbro could put new product for all it's boys liunes on the shelves together. Madness. I recall when figures were on sale for years, not just a few weeks! -Ralph Too right. I can't see there being strong collectors markets down the line for a blink and you miss it toyline. Didn't I do a thing on case assortments and shelf life for a magazine a year or so back?

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree that Transformers should be given a longer shelf life.

Hasbro did seem to learn some lessons from the 2007 film line, when the main characters were in the first wave then simply unvailable. After that, availability got better, with popular characters inserted in several waves, but they could still do a lot better. Speaking as a retailer, I would have liked to see movieverse Voyager Prime and Deluxe Bumblebee available as solid cases available year-round; ongoing key character assortments would also be worthwhile.

That would certainly make more sense... the kiddies go shopping to find their favourite character(s) they've seen in the movies and, yes!, they are actually available! And, look!, the kid's so happy his parents buy another TF as well.
I am sure that'd be a better scenario for Hasbro than no key character at all, a disappointed kid and parents looking at other toylines out of frustration.

I think I've said before that that first Movie assortment was pure retail gold, possibly one of the best cases Hasbro has *EVER* put together. 1 each of every figure, except for Bumblebee & Barricade, the two most prominant characters in that size, who got 2 per case. And it was gone like that. I'd have kept that case in circulation for the entire run of the Movie line, possibly swapping one or both Bumblebees for the concept version and Wreckage, good toy though he is, for the actually appearing in the Movie Bonecrusher.

Yup. For those who don't remember: 2 x Bumblebee2 x Barricade1 x Brawl1 x Jazz1 x Scorponok1 x WreckageThe only non movie toy is the best toy in the case! Bonecrusher was in the second wave with Swindle. 4 each iirc which was retail poison, especially as the case was hugely overordered by the retailers that stocked it (Sainsburys) which meant it was STILL sitting there monthhs later. This was at the point when Hasbro didn't carry toys over into later waves which I think gets overturned later in the movie line when Concept BB starts appearing in multiple assortments.

I remember millions of Swindles in the Entertainer, but never a Bonecrusher, was he shipped in another case too?

No. Bonecrusher was in the Movie, Swindle wasn't. Simples.
