A question:
The lilac coloured plastic on my Seacons has yellowed. How do I fix this?

I'm not sure there is a way. Once yellowing sets in,. that's it. I've got a hideously miscoloured Jawbreaker here, and it didn't come as part of the reissue set.

Someone (Ralph?) was asking me about that at the weekend and I promised I'd dig up the info. There IS a way, someone discovered it 2 years ago. So far there have been no side effects, but obviously we won't know any long-term implications for a few years. There's a thread with pics and a how-to guide here: www.thetf.net/forum_posts.asp?TID=13204&PN=1&TPN=1It IS a dangerous method, it involves using some dangerous and toxic chemicals, so if you decide to do this make sure you have suitable protection and plenty of ventilation EDIT: I just realised, perhaps someone brave (Bogatan?) wants to try this on Nick's astonishingly yellow Jetfire?

Someone else suggested I try it on the Star Saber I had that had turned brown, I chose simply to sell it instead. I am coward!
People only seem to talk about it with white plastic that has gone yellow, fine for Jetfire, but I've not read of anyone using it for coloured plastics. I've got a Nightbeat that could benefit though.
One day I'll try it but starting small. More than once I've melted things by mistake.
For the record you should never put jelly sweets (like Haribo) in a microwave till they explode unless your willing to do a lot of cleaning and dont attempt to eat them until they cool down.
They burn and stick.

My Darkwing and Dreadwind have "yellowed" terribly over the years.
In fact, it seems like 1988 was a bad year for this kind of thing.

Thankyou.
Of all the weird chemicals we have at work we don't have any peroxide.

I think it's a bad idea to dip my pink fishy sword in some nasty chemicals...

I've been trying to spruce up my Decepticon Powermasters. For sentimental reasons, they are the only TFs from my childhood that I've kept. Unfortunately they are really discoloured from sunlight.
I'd received some Reprolabels for them, and at the weekend blasted off the old stickers using a high pressure steamer. Now they're looking nice and clean and ready for the new stickers.
But is there any way I can reduce the discolouration of the plastic? I've seen tutorials of restoring Jetfire back to white using a bleaching solution, but are there any techniques for coloured plastic?
Does anyone have any experience of restoring old Transformers? Any tips to share?

I don't have any experience but am hoping someone here comments on this. I'd love to re-whiten my Countdown rocket and de-whatever it is the blue on his blue base.

Cheers for the link!
I don't think I could go through with disassembling my toys and soaking them in peroxide though. I'd be a nervous wreck!

Maybe. But the only discoloured TFs I have are Dreadwind and Darkwing.

There are usually plenty of cheap dis-coloured Transformers on eBay

There is a dreadwind further on in the thread that has been done and it looks good as new.

Hmmm... might be worth doing.
Where do I find 3% H2O2 easily?

It's a special strength that Hairdressers use. You need to got to Sally Hair and Beauty supplies.

Aside from Yellowed Transformers you can restore the shine on older toys by soaking them in denture cleaner (steradent) and warm water.
I do this with toys I get at boot sales. Its amazing how much ground in dirt gets into TFs (even worse with Lego).

Where do I find 3% H2O2 easily? There are links to UK websites lower down in that thread. Those results are fantastic! I had no idea that anything could be done about discoloured toys. I'd always assumed it was an irreversible chemical breakdown.

I want to try it but for some reason don't want to buy the stuff on line, I just want to go in to a shop and see what I'm getting.

Don't buy too much or you might end up on an MI5 watch list! I believe it is also a bomb ingredient! It may become difficult to explain the Transformer restoration project to Special Branch!

Oh, those guys? Am I really to believe that my next door neighbour orders pizza three times a day, every day? As for the toys... I've chickened out of trying to restore the colours. I'm letting them age gracefully. However, I did spend some time yesterday applying the Reprolabels and I am very pleased with the results!

Would love to fix my Countdown's rocket back to its glorious white best! Think its entirely plastic so shouldn't have problems with screws.

Be wary of any damage to the rubber tip! It might perish in the H2O2 solution!

A delivery from Reprolabels.com meant I could spruce up the Blurr I got at Memorabilia the other week. He looks so shiny and new now. I'm very pleased.
And since you get a set of free metallic faction symbols with Reprolabels I decided to apply "G1" factions to my G2 toys.
On one hand, "G1" logos look a little weird but a shiny Decepticon logo on Go-Bot Frenzy's bonnet actually looks kinda neat.

OK, here's an interesting question... I recently received a transformer from eBay and it smells quite odd. Possibly cigarette smoke, I'm not sure. I found this guide on eBay that may be of some help. Anyone have any tips on cleaning figures that smell odd?
