Which "Sub Group" of Transformers from 1986 is the best?

Hot Rod, Kup & Blurr absolutely, positively, definitely! Stunticons second though - also a fave!
Shouldn't you also include the 'New Leaders' as a subgroup as there was a lot of marketing on this in '86?

Protectobots, some of my first Transformers and still ones I like, even groove. Hotshot was the best of the first 4 leaders with built in giant head and pretty good articulation and I always have liked the proportions of Defensor.

Combaticons, I think, notwithstanding the scale problems.

Protectobots for me today. Nearly went with the Minibots, but that third wave wasn't quite as much fun as the previous ones...

Combaticons for me, I think.
Though my best mate at school got a Cyclonus and I was insanely envious at the time.

I want to say the Aerialbots - they are after all made up of a Concorde SST, an F-16, F-15, F-4 and...er....a weird cross-breed of different Harrier evolutions. But i can't - the Combaticons work much better in vehicle and humanoid mode and have such a vastly superior combined form that they romp home with this one for me.

BATTLECHARGERS!!! I'm not being ironic! They were the best characters from this year's toy range in my opinion, but I'm not voting for them on that basis as this is a toys thread. I will say this for them though, they were the most laid back Transformers in my collection. They would make a half-hearted effort to transform, then just recline back on their little bum trolleys. (Unlike the Jumpstarters who would just flop onto their backs.) Martin

And they didn't even need to raise their arms to fire their weapons! Actually... were the Battlechargers the first Transformers robots to have no articulation whatsoever?

Actually... were the Battlechargers the first Transformers robots to have no articulation whatsoever? They could do Bod-style PC Copper "Evenin' all" knee bends. See at 2:05 below. Martin
