Thanks to all who were rooting for me over the weekend. Means a lot. I've been trying to get down to some art and blogging to keep going. I should be posting my latest two pictures today or later in the week. As for Blogging. I found some interesting tat from my 2005 week away to Gozo. So I threw up a quick article: figuredouthq.blogspot.com/2011/03/gozo-tat-2005.html===KEN

Today's blood donation (my 8th) was the McGann of pints, being the fastest to come out yet, only 5 mins.
Well worth donating, chaps. They give you biscuits.

My issues with needles tend to put me off. Heck, I have undergone some dental surgery without anaesthetic so I could avoid the needle in the past.
Besides, a pint is almost an armful isn't it.....? :-)
Several pieces of worrying news on the family front this evening. One expected, but the others not so much so. Seems to have left me a little bit distracted.
So far at work I feel like I have acheived very little, mostly because I spent much of today working on my annual appraisal. As ever it was a story of much concentration yielding very little actually written as a result. Ah well, it has been despatched to my boss now - all I can do is wait until my actual meeting next week and see what transpires as a result.

Last night, I seemingly declared my undying love for a lot of you in PM land. This was the result of me and Captain Morgan getting together. I apologise for any distress I may have caused. Got plenty on this week to keep me going. May possibly hooking up with an old wrestling comrade at the end of the week about the possibility of another run. Also shooting final scenes of the film I'm in over the weekend. ===KEN

Apparently I am a lot more tired than I thought I was, to judge by the way I was feeling last night . I think a few early nights curled up with a good book are called for this weekend.

I've been trimming my bush today!
Actually it's more of a hedge.
Wild it was! Out of control! But no more. Now it is contained, and beautiful again.

You can guess what happened after that.

Just checking in to let everybody know I'm alive.
The king announced in a speech on Friday that as part of the great thanks-for-not-rising-up-in-revolution giveaway, all public sector workers and students will get twice their normal salary/stipend at the end of the month. Last night we got an email saying that, sure enough, all Saudi students would receive double their regular stipend at the end of the month. See if you can spot the minor difference between the last two sentences.
So... yeah. On the one hand it is basically hush money and I'd feel uncomfortable taking it, but on the other I could have sent it to Mary's Meals. Ah well.

Wow! The Kaust adventure just keeps getting more and more sinister.
Just back from the 1st half marathon of the year. Nipple damage has been incurred, mostly righty. Knee feels v stiff, and th gatorade i drank made me so nauseous I had to make myself sick.

You're one hardcore dude, Ian.
Flatmate is back among us- no word of formal charges [decided not to expand on that]. Not sure if he's allowed to leave the country.
There's been a lot of talk on campus about Bahrain. For those who haven't heard, Saudi has dispatched 1000 soldiers to the country to help the government "restore order" by shooting unarmed protesters in sickening numbers. The country's basically known as the speakeasy of the middle east- all the bars are full of pissed-up Saudis. I guess they like their haven the way it is.
I don't know what to do, guys. We can't go out and protest because a) no-one will listen and b) we'll get deported (if we're lucky), there's no media outlet here and reporters from outside only arrive by invitation so other shows of solidarity are out. The only thing I can come up with is writing to MPs back home and asking them to talk to the government about taking Saudi to task, but if I send a letter from here it won't get to Britain for a month since the postal service is arse and an email won't be read. Graah!
I hope you guys will forgive me pouring this all out here. Our facebook pages are almost certainly being monitored (the staff's pages definitely are- they've been told as much) and a member of staff told me discreetly that the reason the email server had been slow of late was because in light of the protests the security services are reading everything in our in and outboxes. The Hub is pretty much the only place I can type freely.

Graah! Why don't you get someone in Britain to print out a letter and post it for you? (Whether to The Times, the Foreign Secretary, Amnesty International, whoever.) But you're wrong about e-mails not being read. I work for the Government* and we/they treat all letters received electronically / attached to e-mails exactly the same as letters through the post. *no good to you - foreign policy isn't devolved Martin

Thanks for the advice, Martin. Would you be willing to post something out on my behalf? -Nick Of course. Send me any letters you like, attached to an e-mail, and I'll print them out and see that they get posted to the right address. I'll PM you my e-mail in case you've forgotten it. Just put in the letters that you're getting someone in the UK to post them for you in case the envelope/postmark confuses them. Martin
