It's gotta be Action Masters, the latter waves of Micromasters seemed to lack the imagination of the earlier ones, even though the combiners were pretty cool (I was also a big fan of Connectables), but Action Masters gets the points for being brave and trying something very different.

I, too, have voted for Action Masters. I loved the return of older characters in toy form.
I remember, while on a day trip to London in 1990, seeing Action Master Blaster in the toy department of Harrods and freaking out because *FINALLY* my favourite character from the comics was available in toy form.
I didn't even care that he didn't transform!

NOTE: The "Classics" range is not included here. If you like them, then go vote for the corresponding Sub Groups from 1984-86. You swine. The Classics were slightly different from the originals, apparently, with some metal bits replaced by plastic. Or so I'm told. I'm boycotting this poll. I spent loads of money on Transformers in 1990, but only on the Classics, which made the rest of the range look like the contents of a used handkerchief in comparison. They were the best sub-group of 1990. Martin

Classics should be an option, but I still think I'd be hard pressed not to choose Actionmasters.
For reasons I don't remember Mum and Dad had allowed me to go to Toymaster, maybe I'd seen the advertisments maybe I hadn't but the thrill of seeing all those classic toys that I had never even seen let alone played with (except for Jazz, my cousin had him) was mind blowing. It might even be the point I went from kid who likes transformers to collector.
So on the one hand the level of excitement at suddenly owning Prowl and Wheeljack (the two I bought that first night) is one of my clearest childhood memories. On the other hand there is the simple fact that over the next 2 or 3 years, if I had an actionmaster version of a character it got played with so much more than the original.
Maybe it was the collector already scared of breaking them, maybe it was just that the AMs could be thrown around without that worry.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I spent plenty of money on Classics at the time.
But for the purposes of Battle of the Sub Groups, they have not been included.

Hmm, I can see both points of view regarding the inclusion or not of the 'Classics'. I too loved them and got many.
Out of the options above, Action Masters, baby! Mainly for the return of Classics characters, but also for the vehicles. Transformers operating vehicles is a great idea.

I can imagine a ground-based Transformer learning to fly an air-based vehicle having disastrous result!
At least Grimlock was given just a lawnmower to be in charge of when he became an Action Master.

I hated Classics at the time. I could not see the point of what I thought of as 'really old' toys being sold at modern prices!

I can imagine a ground-based Transformer learning to fly an air-based vehicle having disastrous result! Nah, they'd surely just install pilot skills software like what Trinity did in The Matrix. Martin
