sports.auplurk.com/2011/03/bullied-boy-at-chifley-college-dunheved.htmlAll relating to the video "Bully eats Concrete" which has been doing the rounds in cyberspace. I say fair-game to Casey Heynes for defending himself. Nice pancake slam too (that's what it's called in the squared circle) I am glad that someone has been recognised as a cult hero somewhat for standing up for himself. I was also impressed that Casey exercised restraint and walked away. He could have easily followed up his 'slam'. I myself was suspended from school a fair few times for simular incidents and they sadly favoured the antagoniser. I was never sorry for having to do what I did and never will be. My own child will be encouraged the same value of defense regardless of how one-sided the school system can be. Eventually, for the sake of both boys and thier families this will have to blow over regardless who was right or wrong. ===KEN P.S 'Bully' Richard Gale's Mother Demands an Apology-. When the small kid throws the first punch he couldn't just walk away then?
What happens next if the small kid wants to continue bullying? He's too small to step it up strength wise so maybe he'll bring in a knife?
What if the small kid had taken the fall badly and broken a bone or taken a bad neck injury?
What if your kids take on the mantra of self defence and end up getting into a fight they can't handle and get seriously injured?

I think the kid would have just followed him if he walked away, he was evidently wanting to do more. I know how bullies work. They wont stop until they get a reaction and usually the littlier and cheekier ones have a tendancy to run away too quickly . I also reckon the lad will think twice before doing anything like that ever again but the possibility of revenge for being humiliated (and stepping up to something like knife crime is a guess) will cross his mind. The best thing for him right now is to keep his head down and consider the suspension as a blessing in disguise. All parties need to move on. I think it serves the little bully right, but it could have ended very nastily. This was discussed on Radio 2 yesterday. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00z1yyv/Jeremy_Vine_Fukushimas_nuclear_disaster_first_love_bullying_and_dangerous_dogs/I don't advocate violence, but the rep they had on from an anti-bullying organisation seemed to be talking a load of codswallop; she advises people to confront and talk to the bully and tell them how they're causing offence, then go away and write down their feelings. She sounded like she was on another planet. No way would a bully stop bullying because the person they bullied told them their feelings were being hurt, quite the opposite. Something that amazes me about this is that the little kid's mother wants an apology from Casey. How can she be oblivious to the punches that her little darling was throwing, which were clearly part of ongoing bullying against Casey. The sad thing is, the smirk on his face at the end of the video makes me think that even after he got his comeuppance, he still thought he was being clever and funny and he's just going to continue being a prick.

Was it on the Radio 2 program where she recommended the bullied should cry, but failed to explain it was an acronym?

Yes, it was. CRY - Confront, Report and I don't know what Y was because she wasn't the most adept or convincing speaker and she was pretty much rubbished by the more pragmatic other contributor, who saw how unrealistic the approach was, before she was able to explain it.
To be fair, there would be occasions where such an approach would be effective, but I think that would be more to do with those instances of workplace bullying where the "bully" thinks it's just banter and doesn't realise how the other person is taking it. (The contributor's organisation deals with adult bullying as well as children's.) But no way would it work in the school yard.

I had my worst ever bus ride in Cardiff on Wednesday. It was full, I was sitting about two thirds back. There was a very young child sitting at the back with his mum and some bloke she knew, and the kid screaming "F*** YOU!" at the top of his voice for the entire journey. He was showing off, because the bloke kept laughing and teasing him, and provoking to yell things at the top of his voice at him such as "YOU'RE QUEER!" No-one else on the packed bus was making any other noise. When a lady said something to the mum, her response was "He's just a child, he doesn't understand!" as if all children were like that - when it's quite clear he had been taught it and egged on by those around him. There were other children of a similar age on the bus, being quiet and well-behaved. 99% of parents would be mortified if their child yelled out something like that even once on a bus, but she seemed to think it was normal for his age and wasn't in the least embarrassed - unlike all the other passengers. Goodness knows how he'll turn out when he grows up.

She certainly sounds like 'Parent of the year' material. Very defeatist if you ask me. This woman fails to realises that the child has picked up the bad language all the same and is being allowed to repeat it thinking its okay. . Not acceptable at all. The Casey Heynes saga continues: (Youtube also appear to be letting the video be uploaded again)

I have always been more in favour of sharp exits than getting into fights (my theory has always been that there is no point in getting into a fight you don't have to have). That said, I did once get blamed for causing someones knuckles to bleed without touching him. He seemed to have trouble with the concept that I might move my head when he tried to punch it, and there was a concrete wall involved that he was trying to punch my head into....

That was very Mr Miyagi of you Karl. Have some karma! UPDATE:Richard Gale has now been interviewed with his side of the story. Notice how he's not sorry, then looks to the side (where his dad is sitting off-camera), hesitates and reluctantly says he is. It's getting a bit out of hand with all this heat from thousands around the world towards a 12 year old kid they don't even know. I don't hate the kid myself, I just dislike bullies and antagonists in general. Its good that the old fashioned stigma of the Youngest kid is always in the right has now long since been gone. ===KEN
