"During the meeting, Sir Ian's supporters argued that the commissioner should be allowed to draw a line under the Stockwell shooting and concentrate on making London safer."
Draw a line? What the hell does that even mean?
"Look, we got the wrong man. If he had been the right man, we gave him several opportunities to carry out the attack we were supposed to be preventing before we eventually executed the wrong bloke in the middle of a crowded train without identifying ourselves. Then we hurriedly confiscated and deleted all the CCTV footage of the incident and lied our asses off to try to cover our tracks. Whoops. Now, let's all forget it ever happened and move on, shall we?"
As yet no-one, not ONE person has been penalised in any way for this catalogue of cock ups. It's as if men called Blair in positions of authority are untouchable. No matter how badly they screw up or how red-handed they get caught, they just shrug and say everything's fine and that seems to be the end of it. I can only hope that whatever arcane deal Ian made to gain this remarkable power is not as binding as Tony's was.

The man should've been fired over two years ago. Just demonstrates that the police a.) have too much power and b.) can be completely unaccountable.

The police have a very difficult job to do, but something here went terribly terribly wrong and the correct person should be brough to justice for an innocent man's death. The whole affair is a victory for the terrorists.
