Cybertronian Martial Arts:
Although the gun, whether projectile, particle beam or laser is perhaps the most iconic emblem of Cybertronian Warfare Cybertron – like many worlds – has a long history of armed and unarmed combat. Indeed, whilst on many worlds at similar levels of social development the Martial Arts begin to fade from the public eye the nature of Cybertronian society, especially the popularity of the State Games led instead to a renewed interest in armed and unarmed combat styles both as popular spectator sports and in the occasional, covert, low-level armed conflicts between City-states which occurred in the waning centuries of the Golden Age.

Martial Arts in the State Games:
By their very nature the State Games were a stimulus to the development and renewal of Cybertronian Martial Arts styles. Alongside those champions fighting for their citystate's pride were a considerable number determined to prove the superiority of their particular martial style against all others. This led to some of the most memorable encounters of the games – such as the two bouts fought in successive years between Sunstreaker and Razoredge, the latter determined to prove his Dual Lightning Edge fencing style was superior to the others more traditional training. Not to mention the impromptu bouts which their bitter rivalry was said to have spawned on the training grounds <citation needed>. Early occurences of rivalries being taken too far led to the banning of certain individual techniques and some entire styles as being too dangerous to participants. These bans did not stop some unscrupulous athletes making use of forbidden techniques when they believed that they could get away with it.
