Dark of the Moon Cyberverse Commander Megatron
Finally in Dark of the Moon Megatron has gained a sensible Earth mode after suffering some seriously odd designs in the first two films. He's now an olive drab armoured truck cab with grey wheels & grill, sort of a cross between Combaticon Onslaught and Robots In Disguise Scourge. The cab shape is very similar to Movie Optimus Prime. Like the Cyberverse Prime he has a 3mm bar mounted lengthways on his trailer hitch plus each exhaust pipe also is a 3mm bar. The trailer hitch can be used to mount either Commander Optimus' Jetpack or Ironhide's gatling gun on it.
The Commander version of Megatron comes with a tanker barrel that's the length of his flatbed and has a c-clip on the bottom which clips to his trailer hitch. I know such small tankers exist in real life but I think they look odd. The tanker barrel splits in two allowing you to fold out gun barrels from the rear for the robot to use as hand guns, but both guns can then be recombined into a fusion cannon for the robot. This cannon can then be mounted with the gun barrels facing backwards on the trailer hitch. The c-clip on the cannon can be pivoted to allow the cannon to be facing forward up over the cab or even folded right the way back to allow it to be mounted as a rotating gun turret on the top of one of the exhausts.
Transformation: Remove the tanker drum and transform into either of the weapon modes above. Fold the flatbed down 90 degrees, fold the back of the cab onto the flatbed to form the lower legs. Straight the legs, fold upwards at the hip then fold the waist down so the legs stretch out behind the vehicle. Rotate each leg at the knee so the face of the lower leg points down. Split the nose of the vehicle in two down the middle, fold out to the sides and back. Stand with the underside of the vehicle facing forward. Unfold the arms, noting where the slot on the lower arm meshes with the tab on the upper arm. Fold the grill forward to cover his chest.
Megatron's robot mode carries over the same olive drab from the vehicle for most of it's colours with slightly more grey from the hidden waist and arm joints. He has the thin skeletal look common to many Movie Transformers but has some really quite chunky feet which make balancing him in odd poses quite easy. The grill for the vehicle that forms his chest can folded back to reveal a vast amount of moulded detail underneath similar in style to that seen on previous Movie Megatrons. His lower leg turns bellow the bending knee joint, he has ball jointed hips & outer shoulders, inner shoulders which raise up, a bending upper elbow and ball jointed lower elbows. Each arm ends in a claw which forms a 3mm c-clip allowing him to hold his own weapons or any other weapons with a 3mm bar. Personally I think Cyberverse Ironhide's Gatling works well with him, partially because it's a good weapon but also because it's reminiscent of original Megatron's Fusion Cannon.
This worked better for me than Cyberverse Commander Prime did, it's a solid if slight toy. I like the idea of Megatron's vehicle mode being a more aggressive version of Optimus'. The problem is I can't really see the robot as being Megatron, but that's a fault of the Movie designs rather than the toy.
Megatron is 1 per case in the first case of Cyberverse commanders and appears in some of the wave 2 cases. Like Optimus he's scheduled to return in different forms: A very similar toy, minus the tanker barrel but with the addition of a trailer appears in the second wave of Cyberverse action sets. The Cyberverse commander gets a black repaint and is packed with a modified ROTF Legends Bumblebee as a Target exclusive
