Bludgeon goes for silly money doesn't he!
So does Thunderwing, or at least he did. Did the superior-in-every-way Generations release of him dent that price at all?

Bludgeon goes for silly money doesn't he! I can't believe it. I actually can't believe it. If you where to say to me, "Hey, Man, can you believe it?" I'd be like, "No way, Man, no way I believe it". That's how it would go. Just like that. 'Cept with more nudity. And maybe an inflatable wilderbeast.

The high prices of both is why I was very happy that new toys of those characters were made!

HOLY CRAP!!! HOW MUCH IS G1 BLUDGEON ON EBAY?!?!?!!!!!! Just thought I'd investigate the possibility of owning a G1 Bludgeon as I'm getting quite into the character, but bloody hell not without selling the kid! Bludgeon's helmet alone goes for a ridiculous price as well. That's the only bit I'm missing but I'm reluctant to shell out £30 at least for the helmet!!

wihtout his helmet you'd just have to have his big naked head.

He would be upset without his helmet. He might not want to show off his naked bulging head.

G1 Bludgeon, Octopunch, Stranglehold, Longtooth, Double Header and Pincher in that series used to be in abundance at Tesco's in Reading at the time...really common to see. I'm perplexed at the prices these things command now. Why so?
I was always tempted as a kid to have one, but usually opted instead for Lego or Action Force because I didn't like seeing these ones on cards and felt it was pretty naff how small the robots were compared to the shells which were still the same size as the first generation of Pretenders.

It's 20 odd years later, that's why for a start. Bludgeon's a comic character and that inmflates his value.

I've never had any problem finding Bludgeons helmet, I found a number at car boot sales in the past. Never found the tank turret though. Well probably have and not noticed it.

Plus those Pretenders weren't sold in Japan
Plus they've never been reissued.

Well, unless certain collectors are millionaires then its not worth the spend. The robots in this series are tiny and there isn't much fiddleability with them at all. In terms of economy of scale I'd much rather buy a G1 Headmaster sized toy say but even then not for that sort of price. Its just not worth it even if they weren't sold in Japan or ever reissued....

The problem is that there are other people willing to pay those kind of prices.
If you really want them, I'd say keep an eye out for job lots. I was missing the white gun for Bludgeon and ended up buying a job lot of Pretenders to get it. Also got a near complete Thunderwing from a job lot. Sold off the other bits I didn't want and more than made my money back.

Sadly these are the economics that drive the hobby. You can pick Jumpstarters up for thrupence hapenny but other toys.....
Is the toy any good? Was it in the Cartoon/comic? Was it not sold somewhere? Are there lots of bits? Is it fragile?
All these things drive the price up.

No, never liked these ones. The robots were too small. Stranglehold looks stupid in shell mode with his tache, in the comics Andrew Wildman drew him much better, he added black shadowing to his upper lip so you could think it was either a tache or he had a big conk....I'm sure Mr Furman, who used these 3 guys and Thunderwing in his later stories laughs at the fact the prices are ridiculous based on his creative exposure of these guys.

Oh nuts I stopped keeping an eye out for anymore. Got Rad a few weeks ago for £25 since that one they have all gone for more.
I did take the chance to ask about actionmaster Thundercracker though and got what is likely the best answer we can expect as to why it became what it became. Pretty much what everyone assumed but nice to see an answer from someone involved.

Also before getting Rad I hadn't realised how much paint actionmasters used. I never noticed they only were made using two colours of plastic.

Urgh! I would like to but I doubt it'll go for less than £50 based on the last few so I think I'll pass.
Besides I got one I don't want to be greedy.

I'll find the email, but basically it was demands from the European markets and TF's being aimed at a younger market.

Well, that's how not to maximise the potential of your collection in auction form!
