I'm nipping over for a gig tomorrow, and I was wondering if there are any nice toy or comic shops in Birmingham or Wolverhampton?

Nostalgia and Comics in Birmingham is ace, and really near New Street Station. I imagine it will still be gutted from the weekend though! There is a decent Forbidden Planet too, but it is generally quite expensive.

Bogatan and I found FP: Brum Branch when we were looking for the last of the Toy-fu supplies. Unfortunately we were totally lost at the time and still can't tell you where it is It was blisteringly expensive, though- 179 quid for MP Grimlock? Do wot? -Nick

The Nostalgia and Comics shop in Birmingham used to be its own store until the Forbidden Planet group brought them up. FPI also did a similar thing to another comic store in Leicester when they brought up Another World and renamed the store Forbidden Planet.

I've discovered there's a a second LCS opening in Swindon! I'm surprised the first has lasted this long to be honest... I don't use Swin City often but they're OK. Will have a look at Incredible Comics when they start hopefully they'll do back issues which Swin City don't.
My orders are still with Ace Comics, formerly They Walk Amoung Us, in Richmond near my Mum.
So which LCS do you use? And are they any good?

Edinburger's 2 are pretty useless. Almost entirely buy comics online now. Also, much cheaper.

I don't have one; the nearest are in Cardiff and Swansea.
I used to buy from a friend's shop in Cardiff, but when he had to move out of the city centre, I cancelled my order; it was hard enough to get into the city regularly, never mind out to the sticks. He was recently able to relocate back to the centre, but it's so much more convenient for me to buy online. I almost always buy from A Place In Space via their eBay store, which is cheap and sends everything individually bagged and boarded.

I don't really buy single issues anymore, and I don't buy trades anymore that much either as they are now way too expensive in the shops. So I don't really use a lcs that much. The closest one to me is called Dave's Comics in Brighton, which is actually a fantastically well stocked store and really well presented, especially in terms of underground and non superhero comics. If I had the money and the enthusasim I'd be very grateful to be so close to it. When I was more actively buying I used Orbital comics where James Wilson works, and is a great store on its own merits.

No LCS here, nearest are Edinburgh or Kirkcaldy so I buy em online.

I I also don't use an LCS anymore. Both of Edinburgh's aren't really up to snuff in my opinion, and Glasgow costs too much to me anything more than an occasional visit. So it is pretty much online purchasing all the way for me too.

I always look in
Leeds - FP, travelling man, ok comics
& nip to following about once a year
York - travelling man sheffeld - FP, SSC Birmingham - N&C, FP
When I get down London again - be nipping in FP, Comicana [or whatever it is was stateside comics but just near FP], GOSH [if remember where it is] But walk over to Oribit to have look in too.

Comicana was taken over by A Place in Space. They're closing soon, possibly relocating in the future. Gosh are now in Soho. Oribit is actually called Orbital.

Hello all, There's a possibility I may be staying in Bath for a few nights over christmas. Is anyone aware of a comic shop in the area that stocks American imports. I've found reference to an American Dreams shop, but the web site hasn't been updated for a year. Does it still exist?

within the past 10yrs [2003-2007] I'm sure i found a comic shop on the north side of Shafteburys ave somewhere along a few roads back like compton st. But i can't find it on a map - has this shop closed down? I know it wasn't Gosh, Comicana or Orbital. Don't know if anyone knows which shop this is - it was somewhere along Shafteburys ave that i walked the whole lenght of & checked the side roads to the north side walkig from Pic Cir on the left side up to Comicana New Oxford st area.

That sounds like the original Orbital from it's location, was it down a flight of stairs?
Some are very shortlived though. I've done shopping trips with the RHBNC sci fi soc and seen places one trip and never seen them again.
Shops that have passed on that I recall include
Comic Showcase (2 sites) Fantasy Inn Top 10 Comics Paradise Alley Virgin Comics Beehive
And of course there were the old FP1, FP2 & FP Superstore (New Oxford Street) plus two previous Orbital locations

I know it wasn't the Orbital - sure that is up on the south side of shaft ave at the top end. it might have been a shop that closed - think i found this shop on 2005. It's not comic showcase - thats the one that closed or the FP outlet which closed on new oxford st.
