Hmmm. Have you checked the link? Because Orbital *was* in Old Compton St, prior to Charring Cross Road, which is before the current location: there's even a photo. The Current location is the only one which is on the south side of Shaftsbury avenue. If you've not been for a few years both Gosh & Orbital have newish locations See www.orbitalcomics.com/www.goshlondon.com/for details. Google will supply maps

There was a shop not far off Shaftesbury ave, just round the corner from Centrepoint on a street corner near St Giles about a decade ago. They had collectables upstairs and back issues in the basement as I recall. I don't remember their name but have a vague memory that their stock went to Orbital when they closed down? I may be confusing them with another place in that regard. I also have a feeling that there was a place about two doors away which had comics.
Orbital itself has had a few different locations, I believe they started out on Charing X road not far from Centrepoint in a basement before moving to Old Compton St. Maybe Jaymz can help.
There was also a place near Neal's Yard practically over the road from the current FP, but that's going back a long way, at least 13-14 years.
-Jim EDIT: just saw Phil's link, it seems to cover most things I remember (and I got the original location of Orbital backwards) apart from the place near St Giles

They had collectables upstairs and back issues in the basement as I recall. I don't remember their name but have a vague memory that their stock went to Orbital when they closed down? The place you're thinking of is Bee Hive I think ..... Bear with .... Knew there was a photo somewhere: www.ifis.org.uk/social/gallery/shop/phil05.shtmlYou might also want to look at www.ifis.org.uk/social/gallery/?search=&tags=shop&startyear=&endyear= which will give you a few more photos of London shops c1997 The stock going to orbital story was repeated on Bleeding Cool a few years back: www.bleedingcool.com/2012/01/28/ten-years-of-orbital-comics-steve-cook/I may be confusing them with another place in that regard. I also have a feeling that there was a place about two doors away which had comics. IIRC this was a very short lived place in Denmark Street c2000 that was on the opposite side of the road from where FP1 used to be and directly opposite the passage way to where Paradise Alley was. I can't remember the name of it - was it Fantastic Store? There was also a place near Neal's Yard practically over the road from the current FP, but that's going back a long way, at least 13-14 years. That's the original Comics Showcase site before they went to Charring Cross Road virtually next door to Murder One.

Thanks for all the links, definitely Denmark street and another basement shop to boot but can't remember the name at all. Beehive sounds familiar for the other one.
Didn't realise the Covent Garden one was Comics Showcase, only went in that branch once while visiting London as a teenager. Hated the Charing X Road one, found the staff really unpleasant to deal with. Always a last resort.

Beehive was on Denmark St in the basement of where the original FP store was, they then moved to the corner of Denmark St with back issues in the basement before shutting down. They were closed before Orbital opened.
At one point Orbital had 3 stores, with the comic shop on Charing Cross Rd, manga shop on Upper St Martins Lane and designer toy shop in Soho on the street behind where original Orbital was on Old Compton St.

I had forgotten about the Upper St Martin's Lane branch; bought a few Henkei and Encore releases there back in the day. Still slightly regret passing on Sky Lynx when he was on discount there.

Just think it'll be good to have a thread on here where we review UK comic shop. We can do online if anyone wants but I'll just review comic shops that I go in.
I'll keep them into 3 sections.
One's I always buy something from (Good shops), Ones I've been in but not bought anything yet (just looked in), Ones I used to buy stuff but not the last time (ok shops). This is mainly review on Transformers stuff they have in stock too.
Good shops
London Birmingham - FPI cheap TF tpb £1 each Leeds Wakefield - wakefield 616 picked up rare Nick Roche cover for 50p
OK shops
London Birmingham Sheffield - FP & space centre York - TM seemed to have changed over to a magic the gathering shop & have a few comics compared to over a year ago when I walked out with lots of 50p comics. I hate magic the gathering, this nob used to block people from looking at comcis & say I buy all my stuff from sheffield & I'll stop you looking at comics to buy by sitting in the chair in middle & spread my legs out. Then the comic shop closed because all customers went elsewhere Leeds
Just looked in
Doncaster - market & this shop down a side path near the market Dewsbury - cosmic toys Nottingham - FP & page 45 Grimsby Scunthorpe Halifax
Not been in
London - quite a few that i've not been in Bristol - been to Bristol but didn't find the comic shops Hull - not been back in hull comic shop after that one that closed down & kept my £13 I paid for mail order comics, might be run by the same guy.
