Looks a bit too unfocused for my liking. A poor man's attempt at Iron Man.

I'm not sure what to make of it from that footage. They seem to be going for a sort of composite Green Lantern in terms of personality, but with Hal Jordan's backstory front and center. Not sure how well it is going to work at the moment, and I am not convinced about the CG uniform really.
Will I go and see it in cinemas? If there is a two-dee showing then I might well find myself going - it is Green Lantern and I have a lot of affection for the concept. (Besides, Killowog will shout at me for deserting my post otherwise...).

I am quite looking forward to it as well. Not sure how well it will do with the general audience but as an on-and-off fan of Green Lantern over the years they have sold me on it.

I'm only going to see it so Andu does not shout at me!
I will admit my interest is low as it does not have the Green Lantern chap from the cartoons (who I like) but has the chap from the comics (who I don't like) and I had not the slightest idea what was going on in the trailer that was in front of X-Men. But Martin Campbell the director has helped reboot Bond twice (very well, in my opinion) so we shall see.

This might sound silly, but I'll be giving the GL movie a miss. The reason why is that now I've seen better pics of the costume it gives me the screaming heebie jeebies. It looks like his skin has been peeled away and we're looking at the muscles and tendons underneath. Horrible. I, er, changed bus stops to get away from a big picture of it.
I know that sounds daft, but there you go. Sorry, it's how it looks to me!

They are horrible and ugly for the most part, but they actually work on film, whereas something more traditional and boxy wouldmn't.

I just can't. The design freaks me out too much and I don't care enough about GL to try to get past it.
The TF designs look arse in stills and fine in motion, but they don't freak me out in stills.

I'll save my June cinema allowance for Transformers.

Martin I will be going to see Green Lantern, it is pretty much inevitable. Didn't go this evening though - the 2d showings were inconveniently timed for me finishing work and I felt more like coming home and vegging on the sofa with a Gojira film. I have seen the Green Lantern animated film though, now that it has finally had a release over here. Quite liked that, good use of the Space-Cops aspect of the mythos and a good voice cast - even if hearing Trisha Helfer playing anything other than a Starships AI does sound odd to me. (The Transformers newspaper ads so far lack the all-important "also in 2D in selected theatres" small print, so I don't know if I can go and see that yet). Karl

Just back from seeing the Green Lantern live action film. Not impressed at all. A lot of the pieces to make a film were there but just kind of sitting there limply. The direction was surprisingly leaden and the film didn't really flow at all, and it seemed like a very good cast was floundering around a little at a loss to know what to do. Mark Strong was very good, but didn't really have a lot to do other than stand around looking pensive a lot, and Ryan Reynolds seemed to be a victim of the fact that he never seemed to know what tone a given scene was supposed to be.
A film about Intergalactic Cops who have rings that give them awesome cosmic powers should not be that boring.
It seemed to be going down well with the younger kids in the audience but I don't think it offers an adult audience much. Far inferior to the direct-to-DVD animated film, which I thought had a much stronger story and more interesting character interplay.

Went to see it today. The space/action bits were okay but everything in between was unbearable. The reasoning behind Hal being able to take on Parallax because he understands that fear is something to be overcome rather than ignored, while the Guardians with all their wisdom and experience AND the entire Green Lantern corps couldn't figure it out? Bullshit! Not to mention Parallax getting taken out like a total chump by a manoevure that I could have seen coming, never mind a planet-munching eternal cosmic dealiewhacker . Hal Jordan came over as such a thoroughly unlikeable character too- it's fair enough to give the protagonist flaws and weaknesses that he has to overcome on his journey to become a hero, but being a clueless self-absorbed berk that screws up the lives of everyone around him and just generally acts like a tosser just makes them unsympathetic. Having someone pathetic rise to awesomeness as the film goes on worked for Scott Pilgrim, but I don't think it worked here. There were a few genuinely funny lines, but mostly it wavered between 'meh' and 'argh'. Hector Hammond was good but had little to work with, and Carol Ferris was a lump of finely chiselled wood. A damn shame. -Nick

Nick and Karl - totally spot on. I've been a fan of the GL comics since the early 90s, and this was just an underwhelming as hell movie. What really happened to be honest? Damn all ring constructs, Parallax being taken out by the stupidest reason ever, and not even a fun Rocky montage to show Hal's training. Getting a 3 minute arse kicking from Kilowog and Sinestro does not suddenly imbibe one with a full dose of training.
So disappointed with this. Thor beat the crap out of this one by a mile.
