Do you need some lotion rubbing in, Big Phil? I am medically trained, don't forget.

My Twincast and Soundblaster are currently with Parcelforce in Coventry, "Awaiting presentation to customs commissioner." I haven't bought from HLJ in ages. Do they still do that annoying thing of filling in the customs label in dollars? I always got caught for customs more often when they used dollars rather than yen.

Yesterday's box was yen.
I had a missive from Mr Jon Slater last night who's just been charged £146 by the 'farce for a $94 parcel!

gotta be reading yen as £/$ One time me and Alan got a parcel which was 12,000 Yen and they'd charged VAT/etc on 120,000 Yen instead. Took about 2 months of harrassing them to get money back.

Tracking tells me there's a charge to be paid, as expected, but I don't yet know how much....

Ah, that's okay, it wasn't much more than I'd estimated. Delivery tomorrow; I'd better clear some display space.

Buggeration. £30.92 on an order of Generations (plus a cheap Sonicron) from BBTS... at least it's split between myself and the mate I'm sharing it with. Also slightly upset to discover that the £13.50 Parcelforce fee is now no longer something you can legally challenge due to an act that came into being in October last year. >_<

Cross that I did not get a reference number on the card, so I couldn't pay online.

Ralph - Someone linked to it a while back in this thread, but until Oct '11 it was possible to challenge them over the "handling" fee. Sadly, this is no longer the case.

So I have a package coming from the US, and according to the tracking information on the USPS web-site it is in the UK and:
I have not used this service before. Is this a good thing or can I expect a CUTA?

Thats means a letter will arrive shortly with whatever figure Parcelforce feel like making up that day plus their protected by law extortion fee. Good luck.

The risk of CUTA has worked on me in that I rarely import items anymore (since around 2008). It hasn't contributed to me spending more within the UK economy more, however, as I only ever imported toys I could not get here!

I have £1000 worth of Beast Wars toys on the way from South Korea. The Korean boxes are gigantic and there are dozens of figures coming. There's no way customs can ignore them. I will bet good money that both packages will be stopped. My winnings will help me pay the fees.
