If looking at a map it is slightly interesting thinking why do the A roads run from one location to another.
For get about the M motorways because they have only been there for just over 50 years - going back to the small section of the M1.
But the A1 going up heads near Lincoln - that main reason for that, apart from all the romans marching - would be tax collecting.
But then look around York - most roads round there are linked up for horse racing. A19 to Doncaster race course.
I'm wondering how the A38 became where it is - goes from south east all up centre Birmingham to Mansfield.

The roads are pretty bad when you get east of Lincoln. You have the M1 in the centre & the west have the M6 [the A1 is west of Lincoln] that just leaves the dreaded A15 where I think it the road that most people have been killed on - but this is the section north of Lincoln [ - M180] & is due to people pulling out the side roads - this really needs sorting out.
Also anyone who's been to Mablethorpe area since 20yrs ago will be thinking
Thank god for that Louth bypass.
It used to be dreadful with only being able to get there before.
Also - don't like that road to Whitby. I wouldn't want to drive along it, but can't remember if i have done. But i like looking round Whitby.

I've taken photos of the abbey after that long walk up. Whitby is in the area which must have the area that covers with the same post code - ie YO York. There isnt anywhere else that covers a bigger area? London doesn't because in the zone 1 you have SW, N, NE, NW, & maybe some others.

Pete, NE is not a London Postcode. Mr Cullen will be round to discuss this slander with you shortly.

Does it go straight to E? I know I've seen SW on the map so could remember if areas where marked North E/W. But if London all had L postcode instead of sectors - but would end up with L999 postcode areas. there isn't anywhere postcode are just L? [like Birmignham is B & number] Leeds - LS, Lincoln - LN, expect Liverpool would be M for merseyside? seeing blackpool just north is F for fleetwood.

I would have expected Newcastle to be NC - but there are 2 of them. [not going to look at Normanby because lots of them]
that's a greta map - NE is close to being the same size as YO, really close. If it had Sunderland in there it would be bigger.
The areas in Wales are massive!

What's the most common road name - apart from High Street which should be in all places. You see high st in villages & no shops on it at all.

There seems to be a lot named "New Road" around and "<insert name of place this leads to> Road" as well - so perhaps somewhere with lots of roads leading in to it will have many named after it.
