Er... his wife/girlfriend/partner (depending on whether you go by the headline or different paragraphs of text) has made him agree to sell his £200k TF collection... and "His only stipulation is that the collection is sold as complete lot to a single buyer who cares about the brand."
Right. And where will he find this buyer?

I don't think its possible for a collection of Transformers to be worth 200k, even if it's every single one ever in mint condition.
Also I find it baffling these people who want to sell their entire collections in one go. You see it everywhere. The only people who would want to drop such a heavy amount of cash on something like that are the ones who would have most of them already. You'd need to find a super hardcore Transformer collector who owns no Transformers.

That or dealers who aren't going to pay top pound for it.
Would love to know how such sums are worked out. 200k is a huge amount. Even the most valuable figures are rarely worth £1000 and you would need a fair few at that price to even get close to that figure.

From the pictures it looks like he started collecting in the early 2000s and bought all the reissues and movie toys. Definitely not going to get anywhere near £200k, maybe £2k if he's lucky.

On a serious note (and not specific to this chap's circumstances) I will never understand when a partner demands the other half stop doing something they enjoy. It just never makes sense to me. Accept the other person for who they are, foibles and all, or don't bother. That way leads to unhappiness.
Thus do I drop the hammer of despair in this thread and trot off, whistling madly.

Fortunately, my beloved was made fully aware before she moved in that the toys were staying, I have however compromised and endeavour to keep them all in our spare room, except a few choice pieces in the lounge. This is also helped along by the fact I let her keep her lego int he lounge, along with our World of Warcraft figures. I tried having them in the bedroom once, this was a... mistake..

At times like this I'm almost glad I'm single. The headline says it's his wife, the story says it's his girlfriend. Either way, he's had a relationship with Transformers for nearly thirty years and with her for only six; the toys obviously have to come first. Time for a change of woman, I think. Of course, if it's his wife, she'll probably want to take half of it in the divorce. "His only stipulation is that the collection is sold as complete lot to a single buyer who cares about the brand. ‘At least I’d know they weren’t being ruined by someone playing with them,’ he explained." There are two things here: firstly, just about the only buyer who might buy it as a whole would be a business that would split it up and resell it anyway; secondly, someone playing with toys? Gosh, how terrible. Especially for all those common mass-retail toys. Incidentally, I've never understood why someone would keep all their Transformers in the boxes, never to be transformed (other than as an investment, but that's not really collecting as such).

I found a clipping of this story sitting on my desk when I came back from down south (my mother was up in Scotland whilst I was away). I will admit to a saddened shake of the head at the quote about "being ruined by being played with". In the final analysis surely children's toys should be played with at some point in their lives. Isn't that the reason that they exist. To say that fulfilling their designed function is "ruining" them seems odd to me.

Most of those figures are recent Bayformery stuff which has pegwarmed for a long time. Someone somewhere is spinning things...
I'm glad I married another TF fan, that's all I can say.

I'd like to find someone who's not interested in Transformers but equally obsessive in collecting something that doesn't interest me; the former because if there were a split it could be painful, the latter because there'd be a mutual tolerance and understanding.

Well I married the Ultimate Transformers And General Action Figure Collection Hater. But even she tollerates it so long as I don't blow all our money!

I think that's the key, isn't it. Toy collecting is no different from other vices, if done in moderation as long as it doesn't take up a massive chunk of your time and money then everyone's happy. Yes, there has to be compromise from both parties but I must admit to having enjoyed going through my collection to pare it down - it means the toys I keep are really the ones I enjoy the most, rather than ones I just got for the sake of it. In return, I get to have transformers (and lego or halo mega bloks) displayed on the tv unit in the living room rather than sitting in storage.

£10k for that? lolno. That seems to be a half assed attempt at selling, blatantly does not want the kids they were on about in that story!

When I read that he's asking £10,000 rather than £200,000 I thought, that doesn't sound half-arsed, that sounds like he's quite desperate to sell. Then I read his actual post.

Personally, I always feel that when I see people online asking for lots of money for something, simple spelling and punctuation should not be strangers to them.

Hence the "half-arsed attempt" comments.
"Yes, dear, I have put it on a Transformers website like you asked. No, dear, no interest yet."
