Agreed; but the problem is my expectations. When the Movie was first announced and the first scenes were made available on line - I was blown away with joy.
To me - this was the culmination of our generation's happy Transformers experience.
Yes, I had my reservations about the movie designs, I missed G1, I wondered about the plot...
But when I went to see the movie - I was happy. I was teary eyed. It was everything I dreamed of as a kid. It was beautiful. My girlfriend was with me and she saw how happy I was too.
It was a special moment.
So naturally - I imagined that Hasbro would comemorate such a special moment with special toys that went above and beyond the run of the mill that we'd gotten up to this point.
Instead, we got...toys that were not so good.
And I said to myself then - well - ok - they didn't have a lot of time, they had tons invested in the film itself - nobody knew for sure whether it would be a hit or not... I forgive them.
Then I hear that ROTF is going to have THE SAME character templates for all of the returning cast.
This means - NO CHANGES to the character designs - no fancy pants new designs.
This means Hasbro had two years - during which time they churned out Animated - to come up with Movie toys that were up to snuff.
They came up with ROTF Leader Optimus Prime.
Everything else they outsourced to the CEO's son's dog who was given some plastic to chew on. Whenever he'd spit it out finally - it was put in a box and labeled 'ROTF Toy mold' and on to the presses it went.
I'm just sad is all.
I really like the Movie. Honest to gosh. I haven't seen ROTF yet because I'm so sad over the toys.
I mean - there's no effort, little imagination, bland colors... It's like... maybe Hasbro just have financial trouble and needed to cut costs?
I could understand that at least...

These are indeed tough times.
It's no secret that a lot of ROTF toys have have certain features and details removed prior to release (such as Starscream's fold-away hands and Optimus's articulated fingers), and I am sure Hasbro and their ilk are struggling like the rest of the economy.
But I do understand your disappointment. I was secretly hoping for a range of Binaltech-like Autobots; die-cast vehicles, all to scale, articulated robots sort of thing. But, ah well.
On a brighter note, Buster Prime does look very nice! I am glad I held off buying Leader Optimus so far!

I've been impressed with the G.I.Joe film toys. I do wonder if some of the investment funds that would have been used for ROTF were siphoned off for that line. It's hard to say, really, because there hasn't been anything released in the UK to compare them to.

I'm sure the legends one sells more than this - but does the legends set have a robot mode for the one that going by news site doesn't. The yellow grane one.

Yeah I saw that at Botcon so was a bit confused to find another Bludgeon in one of the sets at TRU. Andy apparantly in fiction, Whirl and Bludgeon are rivals in Mettalikato fighting, Whirl beats Bludgeon in a fight on Earth, Bludgeon runs off into the jungle and somehow gains a tank mode, so improves his skills I have the deluxe one, love it and am really looking forward to the Voyager tank one too

Bludgeon doesn't look too bad at all. Judgement reserved until I see more pictures of it in the plastic but they do seem to be on the right lines with that.

Having received US cases of Leaders and Devastator, it has suddenly occurred to me why. It's a globalisation/localisation issue. I'd thought it odd that the pan-European versions only, oddly, speak the character's name, but of course this is because they'd otherwise have to say "I am Optimus Prime", "Je suis Optimus Prime", etc.
Hasbro UK have made the unusual, but I'd say, welcome, decision of releasing the English-speaking versions.
I suspect this is pretty much a one-off, but it'll be interesting to see if there is movement back towards localisation. I'd be glad to see it. Not only would we see more characterisation in the sense of full biographies (which used to be an important part of the brand), but more importantly in my opinion, we'd have "proper" spelling instead of the creeping Americanisation that we currently have to suffer. (For example, the second version of G.I.Joe's Duke is titled "Reactive Impact Armor", whilst in the GB section on the back, it reads, "Special Forces, armoured.")

I was wondering about that... was in a toy shop in Warsaw recently where there was a leader Megatron and it was hilarious to press the button and basically hear Megatron laugh at himself... "Megatron!....bwahahahahahaah!!" It was as if he was laughing at what he had become...like "Megatron?! Yeah right! look at my arm! I look like some kid threw me in the oven, deep fried me and then stuck me on some tank treads! Hah hah hah!" Oh how the mighty have fallen... Pete

Blimey! I didn't realise there was a difference. It sounds like I'll be going for the US version in the near future. For my part, I played with a Megatron in a shop called Toy Barnhaus today that said 'I am Megatron'.

I hope there's a Megatron out there with a mixed-up voice chip that says: "I am Optimus Prime. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

My UK Optimus says "I am Optimus Prime" in a gravelly echo like voice.

That's the US version. You should find that the box is full English language with proper tech specs.
Or else Hasbro UK have also been ordering the US toy with Euro packaging! Possible variant alert! Quick, Ken, what box has it got?

Doesn't look to bad. I will be fascinated to see how the transformation is engineered, because at the moment it looks like it probably folds up into a Type 90 tank, but I can't entirely work out how...
