I got through it. I can see what Boorman was trying to do - the idea is sound, but the film itself just wasn't very good. When you look at dystopian sci fi from that time, like Clockwork Orange, there's some really good stuff. Zardoz is a bit of a fail though.

When I thought about the film afterwards, I began to think the whole thing about how they planned it, burying him in that stuff etc, was a really good twist. But the execution of the film, the story-telling, was just... ludicrous. And disjointed. And goofy. It was TOO weird. I'm all for weird, but too weird is just too weird. |
