Is Connery reputed to have such a temper? Or is there a certain amount of dramatic embellishment here?

If films that aren't made on film shouldn't be referred to as films, then handheld text-messaging cameras shouldn't be called phones, and you shouldn't talk about dialling someone or dialling into a meeting unless you actually turn a dial on your device to do it.
Oh, and comics shouldn't be called comics if they aren't humorous.

If it helps, I am still annoyed when moving footage is called a 'video', despite not being an audio/visual cassette.

If it helps, I am still annoyed when moving footage is called a 'video', despite not being an audio/visual cassette. Well 'video' just means 'see' in Latin, so it's fine to use the word for any visual presentation. And 'audio' means 'hear' in Latin, so refers to anything audible. In the '80s we just got into the lazy habit of shortening 'video cassette' to 'video', when video isn't really a noun at all. It's odd, because we never called audio cassettes 'audios'. But 'phone' means 'sound' or 'voice' in Greek, so really shouldn't be used for a handheld device unless its primary use is vocal communication. Sending a silent text message or taking a photograph on a phone makes no etymological sense. 'Film' is apparently from the Old English word for skin, or the sole of the foot. Martin

I wonder if Mr. Boorman refers to where he keeps his bed sheets as the linen cupboard? Even though most bedsheets are predominantly cotton now (although for him I expect nothing less than black silk.)
