Where on Earth can I access my boomarks? I see a star which means I can add them but how do I access them?

Click on the spanner on the right of the browser bar and then select bookmarks from the menu that appears.

The easiest way is on the bookmarks menu select "Always show the bookmarks bar". This will have a button for "Other bookmarks" for quick access.
