I really enjoyed reading those first five entries, Graham. I concur. I must have a couple thousand books on the shelf (they're floor-to-ceiling in a previous master bedroom) and I'm not quite at the level where I can treat digital as real; something to read needs to be tangible to me, so I'd certainly welcome bigger printed compilations, irrespective of the fact that I would have to pay. I hope you do

Just as long as it doesn't mean people who are happy to read issues on screen get to see stuff months before those of us who choose only to read printed fanzines! (And, indeed, only printed editorial features.) Martin

Of course in those days I was a complete novice, clumsily using the "fill" tool and clicking inside every white gap between the artwork I could find. Cross-hatching and I became great enemies at this time. Same here, Graham. Same here.

Wow. I don't know where you found the motivation, Graham. I'm not too bad with Photoshop myself, but I would run out of patience pretty quickly, I reckon. This one looks particularly good, by the way: If they were producing any more than a couple of copies I think it would be hard to argue the point, yep!

Oh, there's a novel coming? Good man! Take a bow for your contributions with Polaris. And congratulations on what the hints indicate might be a moment of joy in your personal life. I'll shout you a pair of Transformers cufflinks if they're needed

Sorry to hear the mag is going digital only. I'd still happily pay for print, even if it cost more. -Ralph

Sorry to hear the mag is going digital only. NOOOOO! Really? Poo. Likewise. Price isn't an issue if I can get a printed version. Specially as I don't own a printer myself any more. And Graham produces the best printed fanzines around. I'm not really interested in following a digital fanzine, I'm afraid. (Looking to further minimise my home PC on-time in 2012. Too much time staring at a screen in work as it is. E-mail, TMUK forum and ordering stuff is the planned extent of my home computer use in the coming year.) Martin

Congratulations on the ten year anniversary G. Sorry to hear of your winding down of TF fiction, and gutted about Polaris being digital only. How much would print cost (full cost without subsidies) for short numbers?

What wonderful blogs, eloquent and insightful as ever. The 'Unfinished Dog' was, well, moving to be honest, inspirational infact! Sorry to hear you're not going to be writing TF for a while (I think you're a magnificent TF writer) , and that the 'Zine is going digital only (nothing can replace a cool hard one in your hand), but I totally understand why. I would like to say that I too would gladly pay more for a hard copy. The blogs have made me appreciate even more (if that's possible) the hard work and thought that goes into fanzines, something I've only been exposed to since finding this wonderful forum. 'Tis a credit to all-a-yous out there who embark on such projects, but especially you, Tomo, who time and time again produce a 'Zine which, frankly, blows my bollocks of with its high quality! Oh, and congrats on the 10 years aniv!

Whilst I personally will regret the passing of the physical edition of Polaris I have been half-expecting this to happen for a while now. Between rising costs and a likely shrinking market for the traditional fanzine I suspect that it has been on the cards for a fair while. I will miss the lovely immediacy of a physical fanzine arriving through my letterbox but in whatever format I certainly look forward to Polaris' new form.
(I actually think that Andy is right in that digital distribution is the way forward, there are so many reasons that I think it is the tool of the moment. I just happen to be instinctively the consumer of the moment before in a lot of ways).

Thanks for all the comments, guys. Much appreciated!
The possibility of a collected print edition later in the year is not being ruled out.

Good. Might a way to go be to do digital single issues and perhaps a yearly annual omnibus 'printed' edition?
