Mechtech sounds like one of those one-man-and-his-son operations that make a living putting together mecha from salvaged parts that you would find in the Battletech or Heavy Gear universes - the sort of folk who you by some horrible frankenstein's monster of a mecha from only to discover that it is tuned to perfection and you end up sticking with it through thick and thin even when offered a factory-fresh replacement when it has carried you to fame and fortune.
And in other news, yes the picture of the Micromaster-sized mobile base thing impressed me. The rest of the Dark of the Moon stuff I can..... I was going to say take or leave, but it is pretty much just leave... but the baseformer looks like it is quite fun.

If they were truly Masterpiece toys, rather than Hasbro toys thrown into MP boxes - then I'd love them. I was actually on the verge of buying Transformers - like ROTF leader Prime or the new Generations toys, several times. But in the end, I didn't. I'm really really really tempted to get back into collecting these - but still got a lot of debt to pay off ...not to mention that my collecting i focused on anim related goods right now. But most importantly of all - despite how nifty Generations toys look - I'm just too fanatically sentimental and fond of the G1 TFs. The only thing I could collect really would be MP and the Encore/TFC lines - the first for screen-accuracy's sake and the second for childhood nostalgia. Although certainly there's plenty of Classic/Henkei/Generations molds I think I'd like...not to mention Beast Wars...Neo especially.... crap. so hard to resist!! :-) we'll see what the new year brings. For now, I'm getting ready to build this: Pete

I've been looking through all the new pictures, and, I have to say, I'm not impressed with this Mechtech thing.
Smaller toys to accommodate the oversized weapons? That's disappointing. And line-wide gimmicks like this bug me. I really liked a lot of the Movie and ROTF toys because of how "realistic" they looked. The Autobots had some really nice vehicle modes and the Decepticons had proper looking military vehicles.
I don't mind the aesthetic at all, but the Mechtech is putting me off.

By contrast, a ludicrous gimmick makes me more interested. But then, most of the previous movie toys left me cold!

Ahead of next week's Toy Fair, the trade magazines have show previews. This month's front cover advert on Toy News is a teaser for the Dark of The Moon range. A similar ad appears inside Toys 'n' Playthings. Oddly, the Hasbro release in both magazines makes no mention of Transformers (except for a Star Wars Transformer with four modes - Anakin, Vader, Republic Attack Cruiser and Star Destroyer). It sounds to me like Hasbro's security is even tighter this year. Meanwhile Underground Toys will be releasing a Transformers merchandise range including "stress balls, plush, mugs, cufflinks and more". Toy News' show preview is available online at issuu.com/intentmedia/docs/toynews_toyfair2011_preview?viewMode=magazine (page 6 for Hasbro, 64 for Underground Toys under Gear 4 Games).

Yeah, stick some police lights on its roof and give it a decent robot mode and I'm gunna be laughing like a Frenchman who's invented a pair of self removing trousers.

These Cyberverse things sound awesome!
Please let's hope they pave the way for some Generations type playsets like the original Ark and Nemesis and more Legends of classic characters.
Heck, even a Wash and Roll playset!

I hope I'm able to get onto the Hasbro stand tomorrow even if I can't get into the Transformers room, just so I can flummox the rep with my knowledge of toys I can't possibly have seen. I really don't understand the secrecy and security that some toy companies use at London. It'll all be fully in the public domain in a few weeks' time anyway, after New York. (The date in the title of this thread is wrong.)

Be careful expousing your knowledge, they might think you are a spy for Mattel!

That's another weird thing about London: Mattel doesn't exhibit! Their UK distributor hasn't been there for the last two or three years, either.

Nice to see playsets making a resurgence to go with the Legends scale figures, it is a logical step and pleasing to see them take it.
Not too fussed about most of the stuff listed there though. The mechtech concept is a good one, but I'm not that bothered about movie stuff in general so I suspect it is one that will generally pass me by.
(My interest seems to perk up towards the end of the movie tie-in lines for some reason when we get more stuff that wasn't in the relevant movie.....)
