At long last, the next installment of Avatar finally arrives April 14th!
I'm getting so excited I cannot stand it. Avatar is one of my alltime favorite shows, and quite honestly I feel that it's possibly the greatest animated series in existance. There hasn't been a whole lot of hubbub about this highly anticipated series, though. So for anyone just hearing about it, The Legend of Korra picks up 70 or so years after the end of The Last Airbender.
Due to the war that lasted for a century, there is a huge anti-bender movement. And the Avatar is not the world hero that he/she once was. The new series follows Korra, a headstrong water tribeswoman who is the next Avatar in the cycle. At 17, she has already studied and mastered Water, Earth, and Fire. And now must seek out the Last Airbender, Aang's son, to teach her airbending.
In the last seventy years, with no war to hold them down, the world has grown up quite a bit, and now has an oriental victorian steampunk vibe going for it.
I also have a theory. In this world, people routinely grow to be a 100+. And Avatars seem to be exceptionally long lived, unless they meet an ill demise (Like Roku). Aang was 13 when he ended the war. We've advanced only 70ish years since that time, and we're already onto the next avatar, who's already almost an adult. Aang would have been 60ish when he died. And the world has become increasingly hostile towards benders.
I think Aang was murdered.
I can't wait to find out!!!
