as I said elsewhere Hasbro did listen and did change the name so to my mind that removes the complaint and the reason for not buying it.
Now I own it I have a completely different set of issues with it which I look forward to exploring shortly!

It's still printed on the box with stickers slapped on top. Packaging should have been pulped. Poor show, Hasbro.

I kind of suspected that they wouldn't have gone to the trouble of doing a second run of packaging. Does make a bit of a nonsense of changing the name though - "We've changed the name see, look there they both are on the boxes". There is something slightly absurd about changing the name because they were worried about it being grey imported and then releasing it themselves in a box which still has said name printed on it.
But them, it isn't like I am going to be buying it anyway so.....

If Hasbro have sense, printed. Recall the high number of morons online who declared they would peel the stickers off on sight in stores.

I can imagine its only the first wave of boxes, the ones already packed and ready to ship. The grey imports if they come will probably be the result of later production runs that haven't sold in the native country by which point name corrected boxes will be being used.

Let's just hope there aren't any children that curiously peel off the labels and find the word Spastic underneath.
Label or not, I wouldn't be buying this out of principle.

Quick question, re: Bombshock, are you meant to pull the blue allspark connectors behind the thighs down to help him stand up in un-combined mode or is this something collectors have been doing in general to aid in him standing up?
Anyone else find the springs on the drones weakening when you leave it in combined mode especially on the legs?

Yes I think they are meant to be heel spurs.
I find there's 2 dodgy combaticon drones: one of the legs and one of the arms, but can't remember which 2! The problems aren't rememdied on their repaints.

Seems to be a lot of QC issues with this stuff. Hit and miss in execution. I do find the idea of drones a bit naff. I did get so annoyed by Bombshock falling down or legs popping off I threw it...not once, but TWICE. Stupid of me but it does get annoying. Funnily, save the drones coming off and Bombshocks left leg flying off by the front door down the hallway and one of the green flat hinge plates coming off NOTHING broke - seems they got one aspect of the quality right: DURABLE....
I've been looking at other PCC's and would like to oddly get a few more...especially the Dinobots.

hey all well today i have been sitting in my pile of newly aquired pccs and i have been fine tunning my combinations...
this got me to thinking, how do you guys combine your pccs? strickly back of the box? complete random? symetrical? colour matched?
i want to know!
for me it depends on the mold im working with, i tend to like a more symetrical look but differrent colours...
i have heavy tread with two of the tank arms (combaticons and protectobots) and two armoured car legs (once again combaticons and protectobots).
i have my dinopope sporrting complete symetry with two dimetrodons and two ankylosaurs which really works for me, but i leave my constructicons as they are, i like keeping the bright oranges diagonally apart but thats about it...
i also like to have drones that look good with the altmodes and at least have the vaguest pretence of possible scale...
that said i like combining crankcase with two a10 plane arms and two assualt chopper leggs... just looks cool and i like the idea of a truck with heavy air support drones...
so what do you do? what are your favorite combos?

I am a boring old man and just combine them as they are on the box. I did this back in the day with Special Teams. As a child I thought they had to all fit 'one way' and was upset at changing them about.
I have no imagination. Shoot me. Shoot me now.

I've only had enough drones to mix and match for a little while and haven't messed around to much but I've got a good combination with Heavytread that looks far more Combaticon/Bruticus than the actual combaticon set.

And now im back to being annoyed by them. There an almost complete lack of decent arm drones. Apart from steamhammer and pope I can only find two different moulds I like as arms.
|
|
|
Post by shadowynne on Sept 20, 2011 19:37:52 GMT
the drones i like as arms are the a10 plane, the tank drones the dimetrodon and the constructicons arms... and i guess the missile tank drones are pretty good
all the rest are poop...
i feel the real failure of the line isnt individual robot modes (sure that would be nice) but coherent limb modes...
yeah fine pop out gimmick, but seriously if the drones dont have to transform into robots and limbs you would think that they could manage a decent arm or leg...
oh gods, what i wouldnt do for elbows...

|
|
Post by Bogatan on Sept 20, 2011 19:49:39 GMT
I think you just nailed my list of good arms though I am probably less convinced by the Missile tanks.
I thought the opinion of the Energon combiners was negative enough that we would get arms that generally look a little more arm like and specifically ended in hands.
Considering they don't have robot modes would elbows and some general articulation have been so hard too.
The leg drones are generally quite good though when combined with a decent body.

Post by shadowynne on Sept 20, 2011 22:25:49 GMT
well at least there is no parts forming...
yeah the missle tank has grown on me, it has a semblance of thumbs, actual fingers, and the altmode is quite cool really and since it lacks any sort of cockpit it is scale free so goes with anything... personally i would like to replace the giant missiles with chain guns or some such but hey in the pcc line its not bad...
but yeah seriously if the only thing the drones have to do is be an arm or leg is one joint and a recognisable hand so hard?
and yeah, the legs tend to be better but even then there are some stinkers and for £$%^&* sake it just has to be a friggen post to hold up the figure at the end of the day!
hmmmm and dino pope... yeah so close yet so far... i thought he would be my favorite hands down, but aside from his combined mode, the set is weak. grimstone has a great torso mode but his other 2 modes suffer his beast mode is passable and his bot mode is mediocre at best... in combined mode with 2 dimetrodon arms and 2 ankylosaur legs i think he looks great.... but otherwise meh, there are other sets i prefer...
that all said, i am sorry to see pcc go, i think with either a price revision or better implementation of articulated limbs the line could have had a chance...
i would of loved to see the terricons or seacons as PCC as bot modes wouldnt matter ooooohhh and an insecticon pcc would be cool!
ah well im sure we will get more gestalts down the line...

After consistently saying the 5 packs didn't overly interest me I went on ebay and bought 10 drones for a couple of quid. Most of them I didn't have in those colours and 2 I didn't own the mould of at all. I now have a version of each drone mould and still I can barely find an arm I like.
Its so depressing as some of the combined forms look good . I guess I need to find the Aerialbot drones to use the A10 as its one of only two decent autobot stamped arm drones.

just a light thread to give a little love to the poor mismanaged beaten dog that were power core combiners...
you know now that all is said and done i actually miss the line. i think i would of liked to see what they could of become if they had continued for a few more waves...
they were a prime example of so close yet so far, and tragically a prime example of a toy killed by its own gimmick...
i think for their price point they were a great idea, and if the gimmick had been dropped for more coherent limbs and more articulation they would of been a real winner.
sure, yes, individual bot modes would of been nice, no argument there. but that would certainly of bumped the price up to a leader class toy which while some people would pay, very few would shell out for a whole wave.
i also wish that drone sets could of been available separately, this would of greatly increased play-ability, especially since the core figures were available without drones... meaning no mater how many sets you got you always had some poor core figures drone-less...
as much mocking and derision befell pcc, it is a line i will remember fondly and has brought me some great toys (heavy tread to this day is one of my favorite toys, just so fun, and his unofficial chibi mode still makes me smile).
so now they are gone what are your opinions and thoughts of our dear departed pccs? how could they have been better? which ones do you love/hate? could they have become something great?
and after all if it were not for pcc we wouldnt be able to say...
ALL HAIL DINO-POPE!!!

Putting aside the design issues (non-transforming limbs and a severe lack of articulation), I think the line failed because it was launched at the wrong time. What I mean by that is, it didn't fit into or with the contemporary lines. The generally unrealistic/futuristic vehicles didn't match the look of either the movie or Generations lines, nor did it fit story-wise. The combination idea would have better served as the core theme/gimmick in a new, separate range and media programme at another point in time.

Loved the idea, and would have picked up the lot but the price-point on the 5-packs hurt it. Just not good value. Would have picked up more of them but not at £23.
Dinopope and the Constructicons are great though, and generally I enjoyed the 2-packs.

Great in concept. However, Hasbro halfassed them so badly it's mindboggling. What hurt was the fact they didn't fit anywhere. One guy seemed squarely rooted in G1. Another seemed to be movie. While another fit in AEC. Hasbro's unwillingness to solidify where they belong seemed like a good idea, but I think it really was one of the nails in the coffin.
Hasbro really needed to solidify them, and give them a propper home. At the time, I was saying two things: They should have put it squarely in a UT setting, as the gimmick really complemented that trilogy as a whole. Or, they needed to use it as a key part to the Legends line, because they looked really impressive with legends. Which means, they were really before their time. They really need a second chance, and to be rolled into the Cyberverse.
The limbs don't need to have robot modes, but the automorph gimmick was bloody aweful. If they brought them back, got rid of the automorph, and rooted them squarely as Cyberverse, I think they could really roll now.

see i dont mind them not fitting as i am one of those horrifing collectors that has no problems putting animated next to masterpiece... for me i just have transformers... all the lines mean nothing to me except more toys! for me the killer was the gimmik instead of articulation... i mean dammit hasbro, couldnt we get elbows? especially as transformers of late have been very good for articulation.
i do like your idea of including them in legends/cyberverse, i think that would of been a great idea.
i keep thinking that pcc could of been great, and its a pity that it wasnt well implemented. i really think individual bot modes arent necessary, i actually like the idea of drones!
that and im always eyeing up my pccs thinking about how i could customize them... an insecticon team would just be so awesome...

I loved them mostly for Targetmaster Minicons... I bought maybe 5, 6 of the commanders, and not a single 5-pack. I'm inclined to agree that the combiner limbs were really the weak point of the line, but I think the point about them "fitting" into a line is that they didn't seem cohesively part of any other offering on the shelf at the time, which can't have done their sales any good.
