hello all,

as i was piecing together my strike plane clan i realized i would really like some coherency to my collection and have a good representative of all the iconic transformers...

i am thinking of going mainly deluxe as they scale well...
as a general rule i have really started to like decepticons having cybertronian modes (not all of them) and autobots having earth modes...

this is my group so far. im going for iconic characters really.

decepticons...
megatron- (im going with wfc as i think this is a grea trep for the character)
soundwave- also wfc as i feel this is a great representitve of the character
the strike planes- this is being taken care of in its own thread...
shockwave- not sure maybe dotm or the foc mold when it come out?
the insecticons- g1 or third party?
nemisis- ok not a true decepticon but i have always included him in the cons ranks. def the wfc mold as he just floats my boat!
devastator- no idea, but i am not shelling out the better half of a grand for a third party toy...
bruticus- foc im really looking forward to this mold...

am i forgetting any iconic characters?

autobots. as i am a con fan, my autobots list is shockingly short... i need help here.

optimus prime- dotm deluxe with trailer. i know not perfect but its a prime with a trailer.
ultra magnus- im thinking rtf prime with the make toys trailer and repainting myself.
wheeljack- prime mold, mostly because i have him and love this mold
ironhide- no clue whatsoever...
ratchet- see above...
tracks- maybe generations? i have always loved tracks...
bumblebee- yeah the movieverse has made me hate him but he deserves a representation in the ranks...
sideswipe- sidearm sideswipe just because i love the mold which brings me to...
sunstreaker- if i have sideswipe i have to have his brother... maybe i repaint a rotf sideswipe mold?
arialbots- i had to include a combiner as i have included bruticus and devastator...

ok, now i have a much longer list of cons than bots... i would like them about to be even.

To me, "Scale" means making sure everyone is in an appropriate scale with one another, and not having everyone in the same pricepoint class. IE, making certain Bumblebee and Grimlock are not the same size. So I'm not exactly sure what you're wanting.

Also, all of the autobots on your list have classics updates, and some can be had without much trouble. So you could have a full G1 cast, as they're suposed to look, if that's what you're intent is.

There's also a couple choices for Grimlock, and a couple choices for Jazz.
I assumed you were trying to stay in deluxe. Not all my options are deluxes, but they're all around there.

You most have a Prowl in there. It's the Law. Classics is a great G1 Earthy version.

Classics Jazzs goes well with Classics Prowl.

excellent! yes of course how could i forget prowl and jazz. see this is what i need i just cant remember my autobots! yeah, i like the dinobots i just havnt seen any molds i really like. i like animated swoop. but other than that im drawing a blank. i really liked the prowl that came with ravage looked like a great mold, i have been meaning to pick it up so a good excuse to do it now! no wait.. dammit thats hound... ah prowl is the copcar! hey that would be cool actually. i could throw a barricade in my decepticon ranks...

yeah, sorry i should clarify, i meant using deluxe as a baseline. i dont mind megs and prime being around the same size as their counterparts though. characters like bumblebee should be smaller though. i have looked at that bee mold several times and i really like the classics prime mold and would love to have that as my ultra magnus. and yeah the dotm deluxe prime has his faults but i like having a dinky prime for my megs to push around. plus i like his trailer. i have been working on it and i have a repair drone almost finished and i scabbed the cyberverse rollar from the ark playset and i am repainting him blue g1-esque. still a more respectful figure for prime would be good. i do like the classics mold... perhaps the classics mold for prime and the rts mold with 3rd party trailer customed to ultra magnus... hmmm lots to think about. im really taken with the wfc megatron as my megatron and i dont want prime towering over him though...

I think we are of the same mind when it comes to scales of individual characters in relation to other characters.

I must say, the very oh so nearly complete original G1 run in 'Classics' is where my minds at currently. That for me is the Iconic collection, with a few add ons like the Constructicons. 'Tis all about the nostalgia for me, you see.

heh, its slowly coming together...
yeah there is some nostalgia for me too. i grew up with the cartoon and all through the g1 era. however some character designs always rubbed. and i @#$%^&ing hate mas shifting. dont care what explanation is used, just plain dont like it... so soundwave transforming to a human scale tape player always pissed me off (cool toy tho) same with megs... plus transforming into a handgun always struck me as stupid for the leader of the decepticons as you were always left with one of two unsavory choices. either the floating gun (too stupid for words) or the leader of the decepticons being wielded by one of his troops... once again a truly awesome toy but a dumb idea for a character. i personally prefer my megs to be a tank. preferably cybertronian as it shows disdain for humanity, befitting a giant evil murderbot leader.

my strike plane group is almost complete (in the post!) everyone is accounted for except ramjet... still dont know what to do with him.

Yes I completely agree with you about Megatron. A tank does seem to fit the leader of the Decepticons better than a handgun. I'm a big fan of his cybertronian look in 'Infiltration', although we never saw his tank mode.
