I've had the Fall Guy theme song going round in my head all morning:
Can't get it out, catchy tune and lyrics which are relevent to the show.
Which got me thinking.....
What's the best TV Theme SONG? A song has to have lyrics so no music only pieces.
Links to YouTube if you can!

I think that True Blood has the best theme songs for years, one of the best ever. The style of music (country) suits the programme's location (Deep South); the lyrics suit the sexy tone and evil themes of the series.
Thundercats still stands up extremely well.
The opening and all closing versions of Blackadder the Third are great.

Animated- Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness Animaniacs Tiny Toons
Anime- Sakura Wars Ah! My Goddess (TV) Revolutionary Girl Utena Steel Angel Kurumi Please Teacher Princess Nine Love Hina
Edit: Added MASH, Fraggle Rock, and Cheers to my Live Action list.

Blackadder II beats III any day of the week. "To faaaaaalll in love with boys is weeeeeeeird! Espeeeeeeecially boys without a wiiiiiiiiinkle!" Most of the catchiest songs for me would be Japanese stuff from anime series. Several of the TF themes, actually... Things I can't resist singing along to whenever I hear them include: "Resolution" by Romantic Mode, from Gundam X Transformers Evo, by JAM Project, from TF: Animated's Japanese release In fact, anything by JAM Project that I know the lyrics to... Transformers: The Headmasters Thundercats "Won't get fooled again" by The Who, as used in CSI: Miami Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors

Blackadder II beats III any day of the week. Ah, I was misremembering. It was the end themes to both I meant; both opened with instrumentals. I agree with Cheers, one of my favourite songs, let alone theme songs. Fraggle Rock was also great, yet how come no-one's mentioned The Muppet Show? (Muppets Tonight had a pretty good theme song, too.)

Star Fleet, people, Star Fleet.
(Only counts if characters introducing themselves counts as words...)
Also: A Cruel Angels' Thesis.
Not for everyone, granted, but I like it.

Some cartoon themes just came to mind: The Dreamstone Jamie and His Magic Torch Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds The Raccoons Around the World With Willy Fogg Dangermouse Ewoks (original) Transformers Victory (opening and closing)
Also, not a cartoon, but a children's programme: Rainbow.
1960s Batman. Monkey (opening and original closing)

Star Fleet, people, Star Fleet. (Only counts if characters introducing themselves counts as words...) The Star Fleet theme song is on the end credits. The Star Fleet opening credits can't be allowed, because that would open the door to any opening credit sequence that involved speaking (The A-Team, Knight Rider, Star Trek, Babylon 5...) But I vote Muppets. It's a song, but it involves endless variations with sound effects and Fozzie Bear jokes / heckling. Martin

I was going to complain about the lack of The A-team theme in this thread until I read "A song has to have lyrics so no music only pieces." But behold I have found a loophole.
Behold the awesomeness of the A-Team theme in french:

pSyclonus mentioned Ullysses 31; I'm currently rewatching this having finally got around to buying the DVDs (annoyingly deleted and expensive to get hold of even second hand) and was disappointed to find that the theme doesn't stand up as well as some of its contemporaries. I find it has become slightly, cringingly cheesy and dated. However, the incidental music remains remarkable, both musically and in its usage.

Years since I watched them but Princess Nine I do vaguely remember being great. I rarely do this, since Youtube and I are mortal enemies. But Princess Nine is worth the torture it is to try to attempt to access a link there:

Revolutionary Girl Utena- A Round Table (Revolution)
Please Teacher- Shooting Star
Steel Angel Kurumi- A Miracle that Starts with a Kiss
Sakura Wars (I think this is it. I'm having to do all this blind by guesswork, not being able to watch the videos, and the Sakura Wars video links are more confusing than the others)
Ah! My Goddess Season 1 theme
Ah My Goddess: Flights of Fancy (S2) theme

Wait, they started singing in Star Trek theme tunes? Enterprise uses the Rod Stewert song "I've got Faith" for it's opening theme. (Not sung by him, though) Pissed off a lot of trekkies, apparently, who tried a write in campaign to get them to go back to the traditional instrumental pieces. Glad it failed, because the theme was very appropriate, and one of the few good things about Enterprise. A little known fact, the original Star Trek theme song has very rarely heard lyrics!

I liked the Enterprise theme too! The Star Trek lyrics were never meant to be heard though, were they? Wasn't there a legal technicality that meant by crediting Gene Roddenberry as lyric writer, he got half of all royalties for the tune?

"I find it has become slightly, cringingly cheesy and dated." I think this is why I enjoy it so much, have such strong childhood memories attached to cartoons and TV shows that whenever I hear them I'm 8 -10 yrs old again ;D Cheesy or not lol In their time the child version of me found them cool, and still does now, those memories overtake any adult criticism

I'm only aware of lyrics existing because my mom has some sheet music for the theme, with the lyrics on it.
