Been lotsa 'Top 5' threads recently, which I heartily approve of! So...
What are your Top 5 Transformers toys? A toughie I know!
Mine are (in no particular order):
1. Energon Shockwave- I think this is a wonderfull version of Shockers, my second fave TF character. His gun arm is a bit too large, spoiled as it is by the electronics, and his alts modes are a bit, what's the word, nondescript. But in terms of size, fightability and general apperance, he RULES!
2. 6" Titanium War Within Megatron. I love Megatron as a Cybertronian tank. My all time fave form for him is how he's appeared recently in IDW. But his War Within incarnation is of the same vane. Solid, armed to the teeth. I love the head/face sculpt on this toy. And although his alt mode is a bit of a 'belly-former', as you should all be aware I love my Titaniums, and this Megatron is excellant.
3. Magnaboss. What's not to love?! I love the individual figs, but combined?! He's just awesome to fight with. Love his git fook off sword. His facial expression says it all. Grrrr!
4. Reissue G1 Soundwave. I missed out on Soundwave when I was a kid. So when he was released I snapped him up! SW is such an iconic Transformers character. Finally owning the original version of him is great. And he came with 2 cassetts!
5. Classics Prowl. I know I'm kinda breakin' the rules by having this one as he's not released yet. But I WILL own him, and we've seen some pretty good pics of him, so I've nooooo doubt he'll be awesome in the flesh, as it were. This is a toy I've waited a long time for. A G1 inspired, poseable, version of my obsessively fave TF. Can't wait!
Ian.

My top five are:
1. G1 Shockwave - I like the Energon version, but the original is hard to beat IMO.
2. Brave Maximus - The best repaint of a TF ever, much better than the original.
3. MP Optimus Prime - I know that the alt mode leaves a lot to be desired, but the robot mode more than makes up for it.
4. G1 Metroplex - I love citybots, and I had more fun with this toy growing up than any other. He'll always have a special place with me.
5. Cybertron Primus - The best planet-former so far. His transformation is fantastic and just the fact that I can now display Cybertron itself is enough of a reason to have him.
Honourable mention - G1 Galvatron. Like Metroplex, I had lots of fun with this toy when growing up. Love the character in TF:UK comics.

I'll probably get slagged off for my list, but since my collection is so meagre there's not a lot to choose from:
1: Cybertron Evac - I love this transformer! Everything from the perfect helicopter mode - the great robot - the working winch...it's all perfect!
2: RiD Sky Byte - Fiddly, bits come off - weird transformation - limited poseability in shark-mode...but it's SKY-BYTE
3: RiD Side-Burn. - The most complex transformation i've ever seen in such a small figure, and a real fun toy to get to grips with
4: G1 Optimus Prime - Hardly an original choice but the nostalgia factor still reels me in.
5: RiD Optimus Ptime - One reason, launching hella-missles at the cat

1) BW Ultra Optimus Primal 2) CR Super Fire Convoy 3) BWII Galvatron 4) BM Night Slash Cheetor - best Cheetor even if it's still not been done in the right colours. 5) Probably CR Brave Max
Honourable Mentions: Cyberjets especially the Hooligan mold, both Flipchanger jets, BW Buzzsaw, RM Victory Sabre, Original and Universe MM Devastators, Original Japanese Tigatron

1. 1990 Dai Atlas - He walks, he rolls, he's a base with working conveyors, car launchers and a rotating gun turret, he connects to Micromaster bases AND he combines with two other guys to form a spaceship the size of a small car that can also roll along on its own with the built-in electric motor. Also, he can pull Grandus as a caravan. He's everything I love about Transformers toys and a few extra bits too.
2. 1987 Soundblaster - All the awesomeness of the Soundwave design, plus he can hold two cassettes and his chest compartment is a tech spec decoder.
3. 2007 Leader Optimus Prime - Crazily complex but completely intuitive, a realistic vehicle mode complete with rubber tyres and an automorph feature that you actually look forward to setting off rather than dread coming to like some movie figures (okay, Blackout). Also, he has a horn.
4. 1997 Ultra Optimus Primal - So many features for the size and price point. An excellent example of what beast TFs are capable of becoming. Also, you can keep swords up his bum.
5. 1987 Scorponok - This was a hard one to judge. I'd probably struggle to keep my favourites to a top 10, but I'll give this one to Scorponok because he's a great big intimidating robot with giant claws that can pick up lesser characters and hold them at a threatening angle thanks to the two sets of ratchets at each shoulder. Scorpion and base modes are loaded with features and play value, and while Overlord is probably a better base (certainly a more expansive one) Scorpy wins out by being better in his two other modes. Also, Scorponok has a car launcher.

1 - Beast Wars Ultra Optimus Primal - splendid, splendid toy. Lots of fun.
2 - Brave Maximus - he is the awesome.
3 - Spychanger Scourge - miniature evil and he works well with BM
4 - Air Attack Optimus Primal - good lord it's an impressive toy.
5 - Optimus Prime (leader class 2007) - like Nick says, intricate but intuitive transformation sequence, highly detailed and with an awesome horn.
Bubbling under: Classics Bumblebee, Rescue Ratchet and Laser Rod Optimus Prime.

Dunno if I could list a 'top 5' as such, though I suppose Metroplex needs to be in there, as it is the only TF that survived the purge of my cynical teenage years.

A top five Transformer toys list from me is always going to vary a little depending on my mood at a given time. However, with that caveat, and in no specific order:-
1) Fire Convoy: Nice looking vehicle mode, two impressive humanoid modes with plenty of articulation. Well-sculpted and a lot of fun to play with. Also he shouts difficult to make out things at you in Japanese (always a plus)
2) Movie Leader Optimus Prime: A very nicely rendered real vehicle mode, with a cleverly engineered transformation. Imposing humanoid mode with gimmicks that actually feel like the add something to the toy rather than restrict anything.
3) 1984 Soundwave: Yes, he's a bit bricklike but he transforms into a very good 1:1 scale altmode, and comes with a partner who also transforms into a 1:1 scale alt. Quite poseable for his era, and with a nice chunky design in his humanoid mode. Soundwave is probably my favourite of the 1984 Decepticons in all honesty
4) Beast Wars Gorilla Optimus Primal (Original): See the Beast Wars toys thread, but he has a fun sculpt, with loads of good gimmicks that give him lots of play value. Viewed simply as a toy he really is a winner.
5) 1985 Jetfire: Yes, yes, everybody knew this was going to be in here somewhere (In one or two things I am quite predictable). The shortened nose in fighter mode is a bit odd-looking, but Jetfire is one of those designs that is simply iconic for me. He looks good in both(all three) modes, and has a very effective colour scheme.
So, that's my list as things stand at the moment.

Here's mine:
1) Metroplex. Love, love, love base Transformers and he's the best of the bunch in my opinion. A stalwart defender of the Autobot held territory of the Left-hand Side of the Living Room.
2) Scorponok: See above love for base Transformers. Despicable conquerer of the now desolate region of the Right-hand Side of the Living Room.
3) Armada Hoist: I also love TFs with action features and I fell in love with this one when I used Phil's Hoist to knock over pint glasses in the pub.
4) Spychanger Scourge. I think this is my most often transformed Transformer after a 2 year stint on my desk at work. His fiddle factor is off the scale.
5) MP Starscream: Top notch toy and a great display piece.
Looking at Nick's number 1 choice I needs me some Dai Atlas. Reissue please Tomy Takara!
