This is a character I only discovered a few weeks ago. For full info check out his linkI cant help feeling hat the assumption that this guy was intended for release along side Thunderclash is a bit unlikely as they are far to similar in truck form. It seems more likely to me this was an earlier or alternative design for TC that was rejected for cost reasons or what ever but the designs used the truck design when they began TC and included the picture in Skyquake because the designers wanted to use the design somewhere. Shame i wasn't used really as it would have worked bette alongside Skyquake. I also like that you can see the design evolution from Prime to PM Prime to Star Convoy to Hyperdrive. Even the name Star Convoy to Hyperdrive seem related. Im really tempted to use Star Convoy as a base for a custom of this guy. Anyway the reason I post this aside showing the design to anyone who hasnt seen this is to ask Nigel if there is anything on HD in his collection of Hasbro photo albums he got last year? Andy

You know about the PM Prime/Thunderclash connection ? PM Prime's Japanese name - Ginrai - Roughly translates as Thunderclash

Ah excellent, I think Ive heard that before but it had completely gone from my head. Its nice knowing that there was some thought going into the line during a period that seems a little isolated.

Oh it definitely on my list. One of the best parts of finally being able to go to Botcon is that I have access to just about any junker part I need so Im putting together a shopping list. The Problem Im having is deciding a scale. Looking at the truck I would say the cab and the top of the trailer look almost identical to TC and those missile launchers for that range where all much the same size so I think the assumption that HDs truck mode is the same size as TC. I see them as kind of like Prime and Magnus if Magnus didnt have his own smaller robot mode mode. I think though that means Star Convoy might be to big, my back up option is RID Prime.
And that reminds me the other thing this guy made me realise about the evolution of the Prime toys is that it ran on. Laser Prime followed Star Convoys arms becoming the cab design and later still Armada continued the trend, but Hero Prime and later RID Prime both seem to share HD cab becoming the robots legs concept which in itself seems to me to have been a variation on Starconvoys arms to cab theme. Maybe Im over analysing but I think its pretty cool all the same.

Andy Sadly, no. This is the first time I've heard of this character. (Actually, it must be the second, as I have Generations Deluxe, but have forgotten about it.) Personally, I'd be surprised if it got past the drawing board. If only we could read Japanese! The toy in Generations that I'd like to have been actually made is the one that transforms into the Lunar Module.

I had a look through my version of the book but I couldnt see it then again mine is not the official version so that might explain it.
Shame I hoped there might be some more evidence or clues to scale or transformation. Thanks anyway.

Andy It isn't in my copy either, but that's because it was only in the deluxe edition rather than the original release. A shame really, because there is some nice concept art in there (I like the fire-engine Rodimus Prime) Karl

As far as I can tell mine is the deluxe version, or a KO version of it. It does have Fire Rodimus in there, but I can find Hyperdrive.

Edit fixed spellings, I hate my mac books keyboard.

Wow! Also on page 113 are a Ravage VHS and a Transformers theme park. I haven't looked at Deluxe in ages (I use the earlier version for reference purposes, keeping Deluxe nice and clean in a comic bag), but having had a quick flick through a couple of pages, there are plenty of things I'd forgotten, so I think I'll have another look this evening. Some of the unproduced Transformers are intriguing. I'm particularly impressed by the Galva-Megatron triple changer, referenced here.

Thats fairly interesting, a triplechanger with two robot modes. I cant quite work out the second robots transformation.Looks to me more like a megatron shockwave hybrid than galvatron, but very cool. I like that the megatron robot mode looks so much like MP Megs.

The Megatron/Skywarp one of those is a interesting, if odd idea. I'm not entirely sure how well they would have worked in practice. But they are an intriguing concept.
I wish I had a copy of the deluxe Generations myself, because some of the unused concept art is fascinating.
