A full life lived and one hell of a legacy left behind.
A massive loss to comics.

They've edited it now to remove the blatant plugs for current products

His passing is a great loss to comics. He will be much missed.

I saw the original statement and I wish the internet would just shut up. There's nothing unusual about a company mentioning the current thing an employee is working on in an obit. The wording could have been better, but really this is just a storm in a tea-cup. I'm not seeing anything malicious here.

Not malicous. Just crass.

(Here's the original to those late to the party: i.imgur.com/WgAiY.jpg )

I actually think it was meant as a complement to the deceased. On some level you could read the original obit as praising the fact that he was still producing great work right up until his passing. I don't think it was intended quite as cynically as it has been taken to be honest.
edit Also, it is half a sentence (out of three sentences) about something that he did do. I don't see it as inappropriate.

Oh I agree there was no malicious intent, but it was crass to say the least.
Given the man's stature and body of work for them, if they didn't have a detailed obituary to hand, a small note commenting on his passing and advising tributes would follow would have been far more appropriate.
It's a spectacular PR fail.

Obviously written by a junior PR person (you would hope) but it shouldn't have gone out like that, there's no excuse.

It's just a quick note, not a full obit. There's nothing to see here. Move along.

Very sad to hear this.
I didn't read a full Joe Kubert comic until about 7/8 years ago; he was one I always heard of (not least of all through the ads for his school) but I first saw interior art by him helping out Adam (who was sick) on Incredible Hulk. I thought it was really cool of him to do that, and it was interesting to compare and contrast father and son directly. Good work as well.

I don't collect DC - but noticed that Joe was working on a DC comic [newsarama] that was down for release Oct? At least they should show Joe's fans the last issues he worked on - but not going to advertise it in a statement - if that is what they did.
