Spent Saturday evening listening to "You only live twice" with a glass of Welsh Whiskey to accompany it. (It should have been Sake really, but I'm not really a hardened Sake drinker so I improvised). Very good production I thought - liked Jayston's Bond a lot, he sounded right and he caught the correct haunted air in certain scenes. The nice thing was that I had half forgotten the detail of the book anyway so I was only slightly better briefed than Bond in many places. Great way to spend a couple of hours all told.
Listened to the first part of the Thirty Nine Steps adaptation this evening - I shall return to Mr Hannay's predicament tomorrow evening all being well.

Karl I found them both decent enough, though not as good as the recent series of Classics Chandlers, some of which I'm hoping to acquire on CD at Christmas. And I did feel the absence of Little Nellie, the volcano base stormed by ninjas and and the piranha pool (or was it sharks?) with the dropaway bridge for disposing of incompetent henchmen in YOLT. I sometimes feel that the James Bond of Fleming's original stories and the James Bond of the movies would probably be hard-pushed to recognise each other at times. :-) But then, both of them are well-adapted to their individual environments and I quite like both flavours of Bond so I don't really mind the differences. Caught up with the second half of The Thirty-Nine Steps this evening. Decent enough I thought, not the best thing I have heard recently but solid and an enjoyable listen. Karl

Listen Against on R4 last night was classic. Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse now spoof.
In case you're not familiar with Listen Against, it's a radio show, on radio... four.

I've discovered you can get the ABC Cricket commentary on the internet. My recent disturbed nights have been made a lot easier.

The Infinite Monkey Cage is back on BBC radio 4. Prof Brian Cox and Robin Ince talking about science and making it funny.

Much hokey enjoyment recently courtesy of Radio 4 Extra in THE PRICE OF FEAR, in which Vincent Price claims to have had mad crap tales of horror while jetting around the world inbetween making films. The one with the evil painting that makes people kill was especially daft/entertaining. New version of Gulliver's Travels starts on February 5th: www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/proginfo/2012/06/classic-serial-gullivers-travels.html-Ralph

The painting story wasn't the Dorien Gray one was it?

Nope. All of THE PRICE OF FEAR nonsense is 'by Vincent himself'* as he himself is involved in fighting extremely mild terror every soggy episode!

Having had the chance to have a listen now, I have to say that I rather like Vincent Price as The Saint. He sounds the part in terms of charm, and he has a nice line in very refined threat which works quite well. Once again you have turned us up a forgotten gem.
