The selection of Christmas songs has been brokwn out early after hearing Stop The Cavalry in a Chinese restraunt this week.
Currently playing are:
Troika - Lieutenant Kije, Suit. op. 60 - 4 I Believe In Father Christmas The Power Of Love (Frankie goes to Hollywood) In Dulci Jubilo Stop The Cavalry Ring Out, Solstice Bells Fairytale Of New York
So what are your favorite Christmas songs ? And which year did Fairytale Of New York by Kirsty McColl & the Pogues go to #1 at Christmas ?

My favourite Christmas song is the Smurf's version of 'I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus'.

And which year did Fairytale Of New York by Kirsty McColl & the Pogues go to #1 at Christmas ? It never got to number one. It was a number two hit in 1987 and a number three hit in late 2005/early 2006. My favourite Xmas hits are Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas (the original not the crappy Stock, Aitken and Waterman version from 1989 or the more recent Band Aid 20 version), Shakin' Stevens 'Merry Christmas Everyone' and of course the perrenial favourite Wizzard's 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday'.* * Speaking of which it would be impossible for it to be Christmas everyday. The shops would be shut so nobody would be able to buy Christmas Presents and nobody would ever go to work so you wouldn't have any money to spend on presents anyway!

The whole of the Phil Spector Christmas Album - it's guaranteed to make me feel festive. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Other than that, the Pogues and Slade.

I seem to have avoided xmas songs so far. It's not something I've been trying to do though. Maybe people just aren't feeling christmasy. I think I heard 'Donna & Blitzen' (Badly Drawn Boy) on a Beeb ad recently. I like that.

The joy of avoiding broadcast telly and most shops is I have heard very little festive songs this year. Hurrah!

I feel sorry for the staff at Tesco in Falkirk - the Christmas music played there appears to consist of a grand total of four tracks, played on a loop, over and over..... After an eight hour shift I can imagine that would start to wear grooves in the brain....

Stirring carol service yesterday afternoon at a little church just round the corner that I occasionally pop into. Can't beat joining with such lyrics as: "Hither page and stand by me, If thou know'st it telling. Yonder peasant, who is he? Where and what his dwelling?" "Bring me flesh, and bring me wine, Bring me pine-logs hither: Thou and I will see him dine, When we bear them thither." A tear in the eye brought on by: "Yet the woes of sin and strife the world has suffered long; Beneath the angel-strain have rolled two thousand years of wrong; And man, at war with man, hears not the love-song which they bring: O hush the noise, ye men of strife and hear the angels sing!" And then rounding it all off by belting out a rousing "HARK! THE HERALD ANGELS SING..."
Yep, I'm in the mood now.

Toys'r'us had nothing but Christmas songs playing from mid-November till January 6th. Same songs every day. Sometimes three or four versions of the same thing ('Very Special Christmas', a horrible tune with renditions by Christina Aguilera, Macy Gray and what sounds like Boyz II Men, seemed to be on every hour on the hour). By the end of a shift I would have been happy for the Earth to explode.

Back when Simon Mayo was on Radio 1, at Christmas he would play a song by Bob Rivers called Walkin' 'Round in Women's Underwear: www.bobrivers.com/#v8730 |<o>|

Can-I-have-some-more-plum-pudding.....
"I'm going to spend my Christmas with a Dalek". It really is unlike any other Christmas song one has ever heard. For good or ill there is nothing else like it.

Just don't do the search or play it at work. Or in earshot of the easily offended.
