Went to see them on Sunday, and it was quite frankly magnificent. The new material is very different (the single's not indicitive, though) but very very good. Crystal sound, moody visuals, magisterial performance. When a band can drop a song as earth-shattering as 'Glory Box' five or six songs in, you know you're witnessing something special. I'm very keen to hear the album, which I have been avoiding aquiring from naughty sources... With the instant and unexpected arrival of the new Nine Inch Nails album, this is the first record in a very, very long time I've actually felt hungry to hear. It's a pleasant experience that I'd almost forgotten.
Off to see Bjork next friday. I'm obviously having a month for enigmatic, slightly bonkers chanteuses...

Same here, it's been an age since I dragged my ass to one.

Got the new album the other day, pretty good, atmospheric stuff. But I have a couple of frustrations with it though: firstly, potentially the best song on it (number 1) just stops when it's only really starting to kick in and get really good (either that or my cd is damaged) and secondly, 'machine gun', the excellent T2 soundalike first single that persuaded me to buy the album, is left hanging at track 8 to rescue the album from a mid album slump, surely something a bit more dynamic could have been done with it? I also bought 'Portishead' for a couple of quid (not having previously owned either earlier album) and while it is okay, I find the silly Eartha Kitt vocals in the well known songs remind me why I didn't already own it.
