Since I don't know any of you Hubbers too well, I thought it would be a good idea to ask about your musical tastes.
I myself, am into all sorts. I love old-school heavy metal, as well as loads of other metal/punk stuff. I'm really into Radiohead as well!
So what're you into?
Besides Girls Aloud, obviously.
Edit: Also realised we have a music section on this board. MODERATE?!

My musical taste is pretty varied and at times a little disturbing. All time faves are Metallica and I am desperately hoping that their next album is a return to form. For some reason I love a lot of the one-hit wonders that come along, from All For One, to the mighty Charles and Eddie.
Can't go wrong with the Girls Aloud though, glad to see them name checked in the first post.

I love GA! Apart from the funny looking one...
I'm into allsorts also. At the moment I am mostly listening to...
Kasabian, albums 1 and 2.
Bit of the Beatles in the car, as always, partic into the Anthology stuff.
Black Eyed Peas, finally got 'round to getting their album the other day.
The Planets by Holtz (spelt his name right?). LOVE THIS! I get stressed driving to and from work (average 40 mins, not too bad, but I don't really like driving), and I've been trying all sorts to chill me out. Audio books did it for me for a while, but at the mo it's classical music. Don't know too much about it as yet, but I'm enjoying The Planets immensely, espec Mars!
Something else I listen to if I'm on an early whirly start is the shipping report! Yes! The one on Radio 4. It's mad! I've virtually no idea what they're talking about, but for some reason I just find it hypnotically fascinating! Not good when you're half asleep at 0520 in the old AM!

The Shipping Forecast is hypnotic. For a very entertaining travel book about it, I highly recommend Attention All Shipping by Charlie Connelly.

Current favorite band is the Twilight Singers. I've just got into Marilyn Manson and a bit more NIN as well. TS and MM are completely different types of music fyi.
Last night I did spin my Public image Limited and Big Audio Dynamite CDs. When punk legends get 'electronic' and experimental.
Elliott.

I'm prepared to sleep with or if necessary kill anyone for a ticket to the Led Zeppelin gig. Possibly both at the same time.
Went to see Biffy Clyro the other night who were very good, although I still have issues with them as a live band. I can quite put my finger on what it is; I think they're a great band, great musicians, with some great songs, but every time I've seen them I'm left wanting something more... That said, these days they get played on daytime Radio 1, and if you'd have told me that 4 years ago I'd have laughed in your face. But what do I know?
Support was !Forward, Russia! who I loved. More girl drummers I say.
More random music-related nonsense as it comes to me.

Fair to say my music collection is very different to that of previous posters. I've got a fair bit of Kate Bush, Sarah McLachlan and Suzanne Vega sitting on my shelves. Sharing shelfspace with the aforementioned materials we have TV and Movie soundtrack albums from Yoko Kano and Joe Hisashi which get a a fair amount of play in my house. There's also some David Bowie around here somewhere too as well as the obligatory copy of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds.

I saw Biffy earlier in the year and enjoyed them. Was in the Roundhouse in Camden, which has great acoustics. But I can see what you mean, they do have energy and beard live, and it was better than listening to the cds, but needed that extra notch to be truely amazing. Support was from yourcodenameis:milo who I found enjoyable enough. Hopefully gonna see Serj Tankian next week.

I wonder if it would lessen the hypnotic effect if I actually knew what on Earth they were infact talking about? Oh, and add bestof Crowded House to my list of mostly listening to.

Ah! Just spotted Karl's mention of War of the Worlds! That was listen to death over summer on my merry trips to and from work! Love it! My fave bit is the very end of record one/side 2. OOLAAAAA!!! Wicked. Bowies cool, but dude, Kate Bush? "Out of wild and windy night..." I actually do a good impression of kate Bush...

Nothing wrong with Kate Bush. Hounds of Love is one of the greatest 'winter' albums ever created.
Aerials being one of the best 'summer' albums.

Nothing wrong with Kate Bush. Hounds of Love is one of the greatest 'winter' albums ever created. Aerials being one of the best 'summer' albums. I hadn't thought of it that way before but some of the "flipside" tracks that make up "Ninth Wave" do get quite a lot of play over the winter. (I'm very partial to "Waking the Witch" and "Hello Earth" especially). Aerial for some reason I haven't entirely got to grips with - I do like the "Sky of Honey" disk and am quite fond of "How to be Invisible" and "Joanni" but for some reason some of the other tracks on the "Sea of Honey" disc don't entirely do anything for me. Not entirely sure why. Never said I actually like "Wuthering Heights" - which tends to be the only one of Kate's singles most people actually know. I'd lean towards that being amongst the least of her work in honesty. In fact I can't remember the last time I actually heard that track. Things like "The Big Sky", "Hounds of Love" or "Love and Anger" I'd say far outshine it. But then -t'is each to their own isn't it. It would be a very boring Hub if we all liked the same stuff. Jeff Wayne's "Uuullaaaa" is an absolute cracker of a sound though- the best attempt I can think of at realising the "weird ululating howl". I have a great attachment to bits of the album - especially "Eve of the War" and "The Artilleryman and the Fighting Machine". There's something about the little theme for the Fighting Machines that is very iconic to me. Karl

Had heard Kate had done a track for "The Golden Compass" have yet to hear it. Must track it down at some point. Karl

I think Watching You Without Me is beautiful and Cloudbusting is excellently conceived and arranged. The last three songs on Aerial are the epitome of a warm summer evening.
Some of the stuff on the Red Shoes is corking too.

The War of the Worlds is a classic bit of music and is timeless in my opinion. As for my favourite music I'm a big Queen fan and like a large number of Power Ballads from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Oh, and I love 80's music in general including the clutch of One Hit Wonders that the decade threw up which includes a fair few novelty hits that makes some people reach for the sick bag.

This week I have been mostly listening too...
Best of Travis, now there's a consistently great band.
Also, little Piglet has a DVD of Beethoven music, simplified, played over various images and toys in motion (she says "deevidee" when she wants it on! So cute!). It's part of the Baby Einstien collection of various learning aids for children. Really very good, recommened it. And it's got me into Beethoven! Contradance no.9 is my fave at the mo.

Oh it is! It is! Piglet's fascinated by it! During Wellington's Victory there's a toy in motion called a Penguin racer, anyone remember them? Tryn' look it up somewhere if you can (not sure where, buy the DVD!), 'cos it's MAD!

Hmm, yeah. Not quite in the top tier of her work. It isn't terrible, and in the context of a theoretically-kids film it should work fine. But I don't think it quite hits the same mark as something like "Hounds of Love" or "Love and Anger". (This weekend seems to mostly a B-sides weekend for me. "Under the Ivy", "Burning Bridge" stuff like that. That and the current Suzanne Vega album "Beauty and Crime" - probably my best CD purchase in a while). Karl

There's always room for Bowie. Especially Low and Stationtostation - I love it when he does dark!
Although, of course, Mr Roche is our resident Bowie expert. Hell, I believe he's even in the crowd on the last DVD. Now that's cool.
