Queen + Paul Rodgers new album 'The Cosmos Rocks' has now been released and, as a Queen fan, I brought it. I haven't listened to it yet but I wonder if there are any other Queen fans out there that have any opinions on Queen's new lead singer. Do you think he is better than Freddie Mercury, worse than him or just as good?

I listened to the album at the weekend and have mixed opinions of it. It is an above average album that has a few blues-rock style songs and a few soft rock ballads on it. It's nowhere near as good as some of Queens most famous works but is worth a listen.

Having heard them perform on TV I've decided I really don't like the new take on the old songs but I imagine that I could like new material.

As a dyed-in-the-wool old school Queen fan, I frankly despair at Brian May and Roger Taylor. At least John Deacon had the good sense to realise that he has more than enough more than enough money and quietly retired. Paul Rogers is a decent old blues shouter and it's obvious that they're not trying to 'replace' Freddie with him, but the whole thing seems just pointless. I'm all for them continuing to make music together if they want to, but WHY OH WHY call it Queen when it patently isn't? £££££££££

They kept the Queen name because it is more recognisable to both fans and non-fans alike and a change of name usually doesn't sell the amount of records the group would like. If they were to change the name however (due to two members not being present) I would have gone for Smile as that is the name of the group that Brian and Roger were members of with another lead singer before Queen formed. That name would have been more appropriate.
