I recall a podcast a few years ago where a chap went on a mission to track down the master tapes and to find out who made them. The resulting production was excellent. He played each piece of music in context in the show then the original piece on its own with commentary about the musicians, one of whom he found out was out of his mind on drugs at the time! Twas a great podcast. The ownership of the original music is murky and he got away with it by not commercially exploiting the pieces.
