Hallo. Don't expect a in-depth Big Phil style review, just a quick blast through.
Style. Absolutely utterly utterly spank your bottom MAGNIFICENT!!!! Pure G1 fangasm. Oh baby. He's a gorgeous deep blue, and the finish is glossy, almost looks like metal from a distance. Awesome head/face sculpt. He's, he's just PERFECT. Yes I said it, he's a perfect representation of G1 Soundwave.
Articulation. Outstanding. More than you can use! He can achieve any pose you want, well I've yet to find a pose I couldn't get him into. There's a tiny bit of metal in his feet which gives stability. Some times he wants to fall backwards, but a quick adjust and he's sorted. He's got pegs on his shoulders and fore-arms for Laserbeak to fit onto, so you don't have to ballance his minion to pose him. Brilliant.
Transformation and Alt Mode. Alt mode is classical G1 goodness. There's a lighter shade of blue in there, breaking up the lovely dark blue and silver, which looks very nice. There are loads of little details like headphones hole, volume control and others. Very well done. Transformation is simple, easy, with one or two clever moves in there to make a very complete looking Tape-Deck.
Build Quality. He's almost completely plastic, apart from a tiny amount of metal in his feet. The plastic is the cheaper feeling plastic we've been seeing lately. Soundwave feels very light. When you pick him up you almost launch him into the air because you're not expecting him to be that light! The plastic definately feels cheaper, yet it's sturdy, I certainly don't feel anything is going to break on him. He's very well put togheter.
Size. I know how important a figure's size is to folkes. Soundwave is on the small size. He's as tall as a Masterpiece Strike Plane (I have the older versions), and less bulky looking. The size of him is ok, I can handle it, but he would have been better a touch larger, a head or so taller than a MP Strike Plane, and a touch bulkier looking. It's the way it is with the new MPs, they're scaled down. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I have a feeling Soundwave may look a touch too small next to MP Megatron, and the old MP Optimus, which I've got. Hope I'm wrong and he'll look fine, the MP leaders are in the loft, but I'm going to get them out and I'll report back. All this is personal preferance don't forget, and I except I may be a touch over-sensitive when it comes to the size of a figure, but in my mind's eye, Soundwave is a larger character, and this representation of him is a touch too small when compared to the MP Leaders IMO. But I'll report back.
Value for Money. Can't remember exactly how much I payed, but he's expensive. Not sell-one-of-the-children expensive, but expensive, considering he's a smaller figure and it's cheaper feeling plastic. It's how it's going though now. So is he value for money? Yes yes and YES again. Despite the plastic and size etc, yes he's deffinately value for money because the style of him is so magnificent. He's wonderful. And comes with lots of fun bits and pieces like the the scanner, energon cube etc. If you're a G1 and/or Soundwave fan you'll be over the moon with him. He feels light, sure, but to look at he is simply MAGNIFICENT.
Laserbeak. Again, he's excellent. Transformation is outstanding, with built in weapon/engines. He looks very nice sat on Soundwave's arm. One bad thing, he can't turn his head from side to side. He should be able to do this really. But despite this he's excellent and I can't wait to get the other cassettes.
