Have Cosmos and Swerve been properly released in the US yet? I've lost track.

All things considered, Skrapnel is a great replacement name. It flows off the tongue almost exactly like Shrapnel. It looks the same, it sounds very similar, and it means the same thing. And it's worlds better than Sharpshot, which was their original replacement name.
As for tailgate, i may get it since there's no better alternative, either from hasbro or 3P. But I'd rather a repaint from RtS Windcharger. Great underused mold in a more appropriate size. This cybverse + pointless minicon things are getting old.
Though the scale wouldn't bother me if they recentered the line around scouts. That said, the scale is perfect for the insecticons. Would be much more enthusiastic for skrapnel though, if the other two to six were guaranteed. Wheelie, too

Despite being a long-term Tailgate fan, and loving MTMTE, I'm not crazy about this toy. Can't completely put my finger on it, though the sparse robot mode decoration and the paint apps on the car mode aren't helping. It's the head for me. Despite it being white in the comics you somehow feel it should be silver.

I suspect that boat's gone unless your 3H. I'm susprised, thinking about it, that there wasn't a GDO Scout Windcharger a few years back. And that they didn't use that as an oppotunity to get Rumble & Frenzy out. And now a new Tailgate is out we're more likely to get that repainted as Windcharger. After all Swerve's becoming Gears. This cybverse + pointless minicon things are getting old. We'll have to disagree. The pack in Mini TFs are great to my mind. Though the scale wouldn't bother me if they recentered the line around scouts. That said, the scale is perfect for the insecticons. Would be much more enthusiastic for skrapnel though, if the other two to six were guaranteed. Wheelie, too The smaller size does seem, bar a repaint or 2, to be where they're going now. Of the first 10 (Prime, BB, Megatron, Starscream, Swerve, Cosmos, Tailgate, Skrapnel, Gears & Acid Storm) 3 of the 8 moulds are larger TFs, 5 are smaller. 4 of the characters are larger TFs (one a repaint) six are smaller (one a repaint and remould)

I think you misunderstood about half of my context. On mobile (or at least my phone) its a pain to break up your post for specifics , so I'll do my best without.
Regarding the minicon targetmaster- i have no issue with them per say. I love good minicons. My issue with these though is the minicon seems to take away from the actual toy, given the price range. True scouts would be sold at that price , and instead they give us this weird class that doesnt work for any scale. Op, megs, and starscream work for cyberberse, but don't fit in any other toyline. "Smaller" characters in this weird scale like Bee, Swerve, and Tailgate are too big for cyberverse, but too small for classics/mainline. And every time i look at it i cant help but feel like if they abandoned the minicon and rededicated the minicon's budget in the set to the main robot, we'd have our true scouts back.
And for the last thing we both commented on, specifically my comment about recentering the line around scouts, my apologies, i didn't make myself very clear. For years (since DotM "reset" everything), I've been saying hasbro needs to recenter the line as a whole around Scouts, instead of Deluxes. The core characters that are always deluxe toys (prowl, jazz, and so on) would now be produced in scouts, while deluxes fill the Voyager role (optimus, starscream). Production of Deluxes (meaning how many new characters are done in this class, as opposed to how many units are produced for sale) would be scaled back dramatically, with the shift to scouts being the backbone. What I'd ment in my comment is based on this context. The new cybverse commander scale for these small characters would please me, if the backbone of the toyline were scouts. They'd serve as the new equivalent to the scouts/basics.
And just because I'm not sure i was clear on this, as I now read it differently, when I said "the other two to six" I was referring to the other two to six insecticons. If Hasbro had guaranteed they were all coming (at least kickback and bombshell), I would be a lot more excited about Skrapnel.

No, they haven't. The Swerve/Cosmos wave was effectively skipped in the US (no idea why, retail not ordering?) but in response to fans Hasbro has had more made/repacked them in the Tailgate/Skrapnel wave (this is when US based preorders appeared). I've got all six - including Swerve and Cosmos - and they're fabulous stuff. The pack ins keep getting better. Swerve is perfect, early contender for Toy Of The Year. I thought it might be something like that. I guess with these chaps it might be worth the pre-order instead of waiting for cheaper prices on Amazon down the line as there may not be enough in circulation to get that far. I've got the UK retail versions of Prime & Bee, and I bought in the Takara Megs/Scream set to get the better colours on Megs. Those I wanted purely to decorate Metroplex. I like them a lot more than I thought I would. In fact with those and the BH Commanders I'm enjoying this scale a lot.

I like this thinking. I'm not a fan of the minicons in this range. I like this idea a lot. I suppose it comes down to whether you see the whole range being reset with the current scales or whether you want the current Generations line to fit with the Classics/Universe era. I think in reality I can live with the Legends being slightly smaller than you'd want them to be. There are two different scales in operation with these figures, the original four which are clearly designed to go with Metroplex (you can see that from the Metroplex box art) and the newer ones which are more like Scouts to go with the rest of the 'Thrilling 30' Generations. There was obviously a conscious decision to repurpose the line. I am fine with the current Legends scale being used to provide minibots to go with the Deluxes & Voyagers coming out now, but there are all sorts of problems there anyway with the Orion Pax/Megatron figures being deluxes and the triple changers towering over them. Doesn't work. But then I know the golden rule with scale in Transformers is not to get hung up on it. It would be nice if Hasbro picked a set of classes and stuck with them, but I know there are too many factors involved for that ever to be possible for more than a couple of years. However your suggestion would make it all work a lot better, if ultimately giving us an overall smaller size to the range. Oh yes, totally. BH Hardshell, FoC Kickback and Legends Skrapnel is not a good line up. A proper Kickback and Bombshell to go with Skrapnel... I'd be over the moon. Love those characters.

Or simply that as a common use word they might not be able to trademark it. (That said, there is a DC Character called Shrapnel so they may have sneaked a trademark registration in whilst Hasbro wasn't looking). Karl His wiki entry does say he was renamed Skrapnel for trademark reasons 'again'. I'm assuming the 'again' is in reference to his name change to Sureshot for FoC? Great little toys these, although I'm still on the fence about having a small toy with a slightly smaller companion toy. I'd have loved the option to buy them all individually. I'm also a little miffed that they've got Shrapnel in this scale with Chop Shop in the smaller scale. Stand them next to FP's Stormbomb (or Hardshell?) and FoC Kickback and you've got a steady increase of Insecticon sizes. Oh, and with regards to Cosmos's scale, I found iGear's U.F.O. is bang on and also happens to be great iteration (with a very useful flight stand).

There's. Gnaw/Gnash pack on the Wal Mart listing, which have been good so far, indicating a Sharkticon is coming in this size.

But whatever came of the cancellation rumour? I know it was debunked but I've not actually seen Swerve et al turn up yet. (and yeah, still kinda annoyed that my work computer let me down when I tried to edit 'Sureshot' to 'Sharpshot'. Thanks for the explanation by the way)

I'm not sure we'll ever get to the bottom of quite what happened to these in the west (underordering at retail? If so why did BBTS never have a preorder up fr nthe first lot?) but there's more of them coming soon.

I do recall at the time, robotkingdom were touting exclusivity which would explain BBTS lack of pre-order but it's odd that Hasbro would dish out such an exclusive. More likely they managed to purchase the entire (limited) Chinese stock so counted it as exclusive. Whatever came of it, I still have hope my BBTS pre-order will come through eventually. Even if it doesn't, I've still got Trashtalk and Cogwheel to console myself with...

Just catching up on this thread (I'm sure I should be doing something else instead - like, say, working...), and I've got to say that whilst I do really like the four figures that I've had so far (Prime, Megs, Bee and Screamer) and all their "Minicons", and much as I'm anticipating the next set of pre-orders I've got from Kapow, I also really can't disagree with anything that you said, Crazy Jetty. Rebalancing all the lines would be a good move, and would make collecting a lot easier. And would eliminate scale issues (well, some of them).
But kids like big, chunky toys, so sadly I don't think that that will ever happen...

oooo, not seen the Legends in package before. How can a toy that works so so well as Swerve not work as Gears? I think the head doesn't help and the waist needs some red paint apps.

I think the packaging art behind Gears shows exactly why it doesnt work, Gears needs giant head silver chest and red on the waist. Head aside its a simple repaint, but that head will be more tricky.

Caught on with these a little late. Love Cosmos/Payload to bits! Not literally, but very happy with this line so far.
Just purchased Megatron for £10 inc postage on Amazon US. Thought I;d give a heads up.
