I don't think this has anything to do with demand.
My friend has a theory, and I agree, that this began as a Hasbro endeavor, and Fire Convoy is being pulled out to be used as the Year of the Dog Platinum Prime. Meanwhile, while it's out, Takara decided to do a full on reissue.

Looks like they got rid of his sparkly blue helmet and wrists, though they have kept his sparkly blue windows.
I know the giant Autobot logos were for the US version... but I really like them!!!

Ralph's right, they were £30 back in the day.

By comparison they're far better than today's leaders so use that, £50, as a starting point and say £10 - £15 better, and you're looking at just over twice the original price which given that sub £10 deluxes are now £20 looks reasonable.

So it probably feels like it should be a £130 ish boxset.

I want to buy this but I don't think I justify it especially as I already have decent Car Robots versions albeit with heavy chrome damage to Super Fire Convoy "I'M A GOLDFISH - TRANFORM!"

Mmmmm! thats some good maths-ing. I suspect you are slightly lowballing the current day value at £60-65. Bigger, more complex and electronics.

I would like them, even though last time I looked the chrome was alright on mine, I just think they look beter without it. No way Im paying that much though, if Hasbro release'd them for around £150 maybe.

If Jetty is right and Hasbro go proper "Year of" mad on them I will have to get them.

I don't think so. If it did then it would most likely would have been when Beast Wars Returns aired over there, but I don't recall there being many larger toys in the line for that.
