Hmm, not sure what I was expecting, bit underwhelmed to be honest I'm glad they're decoys : I couldn't face the trauma of them being Legends/Legions repaints I couldn't get!

Look what BBTS have at Botcon: Will that be enough? Mind you, if they're the only dealer that has them that may well NOT be enough! -Nick

Tony and myself have metroplex.
Tony is talking of getting the sdcc one to which is madness, the box is twice the size of the regular one.
I'm frankly still impressed at haggling down the price on Tony's by $10 even though it was the very last one at the show.
Partly due to those and partly due to nicks shopping list the four of us are jammed into a large suv like sardines in a tin.

Quite frankly all versions of Metroplex call to me! I am more someone who appreciates the toys these days rather than having the need to have them (especially after a vast slimming down of the collection) but I long since admitted to myself that I will inevitably own a Metroplex at some point. As an occasional TF toy purchaser it's unique enough to warrant being picked up (bit more special) and what's left of the original toy is all that remains of my childhood toys in general (not just Transformers)* so the nostalgia element is red-hot for me.
All it will take is the confluence of having some spare unallocated cash, nostalgia fever and possibly some alcohol!

Yeah, I think I find the Spychangers in those pictures more exciting - the base mode continues to look a bit weak, like a G1 Metroplex that can't quite relax. I guess it's understandable that they'd put more effort into the robot mode, but I've always been a base mode fan.

Baseformers by their very nature are not always photogenic. I think with this that the proof will be in the plastic pudding.

Following up the earlier David Willis in suitcase pic... www.shortpacked.com/comics/2013-07-05-tsa.pngBut where are the play features in the base mode? It doesn't have that much interactivity tbh beyond driving legends up the legs. Is there a recently released legends Autobot helicopter to land on the helipad?

Whirl was still on sale?
Come to think of it Springer and Sandstorm came out in 86 too
Blades is the best fit though

Though if you go with the theory that Metroplex and the 86 Special Teams are the last gasp of unreleased Diaclone and should all be on the same side then Vortex would have been suitable too

I was thinking Springer too large for the helipad, as you say. Vortex is a Decepticon.
Danger of verging off topic!

While I was rooting around the attic yesterday I found a bag full of Spychangers Tiny Tins from Toy-fu... 2010 I believe, given to me by one Matt Marshall. Come to Toy-fu and populate your Metroplex -Nick

Base-modes are almost always something that is more fun to play with than to look at. There are very few I can think of that look that great just sitting on the shelf, so it is fair enough that Metroplex's doesn't necessarily sell itself in the photographs. Although actually I don't mind it so much, I think it looks fairly decent. The mode which is giving me slight pause is the land-carrier mode. There is something about the proportions of it in photographs which just doesn't work for me.

The way the chest is higher than the ramps?
What's really got me excited is the seats for the legends to sit in.

Got Metroplex out of the box yesterday for the first time. Haven't even transformed it yet still having too much fun with robot mode.
Oh first I should say the box is a work of art in itself. It's seemed like box art was a dying skill at Hasbro but Metroplex's is just stunning.
I was expecting it to feel really lightweight especially after just getting the reissue Fort Max but it has some real heft to it. It's a bit less wide and is missing the leg helipad gun and the hip cannon/city tower but otherwise is pretty much as bulky as Max. At the same time I can see a little of the terrible Optimus Maximus (or whatever it was called) and other recent base type things were they have gone for a lightweight approach.
Oh and Scamper sitting in the shoulder seat. So good.

Oh, to splash out AA for Metrolex or hope that he's released over here at a lower price? Hmm, or what about Amazon.com using their customs clearance thingy; I wonder how that would compare?
