So who has managed to get a hold of this fantastic looking figure? I want him but can't afford him just now.

Forked over the customs charge and Parcelforce extortion on Friday and selected tomorrow for redelivery. I will be up at 6 sat in front of the door.

With all the extra postage and customs charges is it still cheaper to buy these figures from Japan? I caught myself moaning that Wheeljack was £53.50 shipped from Kapow the other day, and then remembered what Sideswipe cost me off eBay when he came out, which I think was about 30 quid more all in from a Japanese seller.

Blimey that is a cheap price for a G2 Sideswipe. No wonder he's so angry.

Toyspark is where I have gotten my other two MP figures from and probably where I shall get Wheeljack from. The only annoying this is they originally had him for the same price as G2 Sideswipe, then his price increased by £8.

It varies. If an HLJ package sneaks through customs it's probably the cheapest option, at least to start with, though I haven't had one make it through in a while. Risked it this time and it didn't work out. If there are a few things I want to get together I sometimes go for Robot Kingdom, as they usually mark down the value on the customs label, but their shipping is higher. -Jim

Interesting. Swings and roundabouts it seems. Life would be so much more fun without customs.
My Wheeljack arrived today. Grinned removing the car from the box, it's bang on. But what the fup is this Amazon extra all about? Surely there was something more they could have done that basically give him a man bag. Pointless.

Mine is here.
He is....
MAGNIFICENT.
I'm in a state of dream-like joy. He's just as good as Prowl.

Despite the inconvenience of a Nightarama shift last night, my enjoyment of Wheeljack continues. He's a big hit on the 'Modern MP' parade in terms of magnificent super G1 styling. His personality just jumps out at you, possibly more than the Prowl mold. He oozes Sunbow cartoon. And the car mode is to die for. As a toy he's not quite as good as the Prowl moold, but as a character figure he's as good for sure. I'm over the moon. Please keep these MP Autobot cars coming Takara!

Oh baby he's so good! He looks fantastic next to Prowl. I'm desperate for a Jazz now. I'm so impressed with the design and transformation. Top work. Same probs with super light plastic, non-rubber tyres etc etc. But with the toy world the way it is, sadly I expect that. I agree with Jim on the other thread that the Amazon extra thingy is pretty worthless. "Manbag" I think Jim described it as! Design wise Wheeljack is ultragorgeousbrilliant, in some ways better than the Prowl mold even. The style is right up my alley. I currently have all the MP Autobots I have on display (Prime, Prowl, Wheeljack, Sideswipe and Bii) and it's looking very healthy now, after looking a bit outmatched by my Decepticons for the longest time. I know modern MPs have their failts, but they do it for me 'n' no mistake.

I've had mine out this afternoon for a good play. And Wheeljack too. Not all my MPs are out at the moment, but Wheeljack has joined Prowl & Sideswipe on the 'special' shelf next to my desk. He fits perfectly with them and the collection is certainly growing. It's an amazing toyline.
Hard to find faults with him, but being a picky Transformers fan I feel obliged to look at the what ifs. Agree totally about the light plastic and non-rubber tyres. In that regard he is a lesser toy than the original, and almost feels lighter to me too. I'm also not totally sold on the head because I'm more toy than cartoon in want, and this is very definitely cartoon. The plastic doesn't feel as good as Prowl's - his whites are shiny and better detailed. Is that due to the finishes on the G1 car versions? Prowl had shinier bodywork didn't he? (mine's in the loft atm)
I've also concluded that the decision to give him one long slender rocket instead of two stubby ones is probably to maintain the aesthetic of the figure. This is Wheeljack post diet. It's a Wheeljack that fits the proportions of the other MP cars. Two heavy duty launchers on his shoulders would make him top heavy, but I'm looking forward to Dr Wu giving me the chance to find out (unless - did he have that one big rocket in the cartoon? I can't remember).
That really is my only other slight sigh with this. All these MP cars are proportioned the same; they're all identical heights and body ratios. It would have been perfect to have Wheeljack slightly shorter, but wider and bulkier. It wouldn't have hurt. These don't all have to be exactly the same.
But all those concerns are just a thimble of woe compared to the bucket of brilliance this is. I reeeeally hope Takara see this line through. We're still a worryingly long way off a full set of '84 figures, even if you forget the minibots. I'm REALLY craving a Hound, Jazz and Ratchet now. I'd very happily trade this Star Sabre nonsense for any of those.

He only ever had one launcher in the cartoon, and one launcher does suite the 'post-diet' (excellent expression chyber chumb!) Wheeljack. But yes, the option to have two will be nice. Size-wise, he does fit in perfectly, but I wouldn't mind a bit of variety in the the line here and there. This Wheeljack is completely cartoon based, where-as I feel Prowl is a good blend of toy and cartoon. A similar blend would have perhaps been preferable with Wheeljack as well, but this figure is so good I've hardly given that a thought. And yes, sorry Star Sabre fans, and MP Magnus fans, but you're taking up releases here. Let's see more '84 Autobot cars, baby. And a frakking Megatron already!

It's been said before but it does seem odd given the barrage of 3P figures we get now that we don't have a proper Megatron. Perhaps they fear the gun thing. I think you're right about Prowl being a better toy/cartoon hybrid. Compare the heads. Prowl looks refined and sophisticated. Wheeljack is very simplified and cartoony. Definitely not moaning though. Great toy.
