I concur. Although I wish they had maybe split it into two books as it is slightly awkward to handle. This is why I am put off the giant Marvel Omnibus volumes! They look nice on the shelf but over a certain page count are a pain to physically hold while reading. -Ralph

Ladronn Cable v2 is here! Odd to think I may already have "Trade Of The Year" in my hands.
Not seen too many contenders on the runway.

The Champions has been traded before whereas Brute Force has not. Therefore BRUTE FORCE is the greatest trade collection of 2018.

Just read Black Bolt vol 1. Thats was 69p well spent.
I assume it wont make it past vol 2 because thats what Marvel do....
edit: Yup ending with issue 12, thats a shame

I don't mind it not continuing past 12, having been picking up the single issues digitally.
It does feel like a story that was only meant to run a certain length of time. I can imagine Marvel might have extended the series if it had sold gangbusters, but I don't think the creative team would have stuck around.

69p less well spent. Secret Empire. Wow, that was.... a book. Story was a one issue someone bad has cast a spell and things have gone funny spread over 550 pages with every other pages telling me how bad thing were. And yet what was actually being depicted never really lived up to the claim. And the art gradually beat me down. It not bad as such but every close up of the guys looks like Alan Tudyk suffering varying degrees of hangover.
Generation X vol 1 on the other hand was quite enjoyable. At least after the first 2 issues that felt like I as jumping in at issue 3.

Out of curiosity, if the Secret Empire book is 550 pages, which comics does it collect?

While ordering the Magneto War trade I remembered to write it up on my list of X-Men trades, which drew my attention to a) not having written up several recent ones and b) how there's a large run now available.
Uncanny 341-380 now exists in floppy trade:
341-350 Trial of Gambit 351-359 X-Men Blue v0 (Gold v0 contain X-Men 70-79) 360-365 Hunt for Professor Xavier (also contains X-Men 80-84) 366-371 Magneto War (also contains X-Men 85-91) 372-375 The Shattering (also contains X-Men 92-95 but OOP) 376-377 vs Apocalypse v1 (also contains X-Men 96-97) 378 vs Apocalypse v2 (also contains X-Men 98) 379-380 Powerless (also contains X-Men 99)

Read the first volume of the current Thanos run courtesy of the library. Really enjoyed it. I only know Jeff Lamire from really bad X-Men comics but this is great. It's like reading something from a completely different writer.
Cornell's DW 3rd Doctor Titan trade was ok. Lots of nice little bits and very nice art but an issue too long for the story. Ten million points for having a reference to DIMENSIONS IN TIME though!
The IDW Ghostbusters trade where their team meets the new all-woman team from the reboot movie was good (much better than the Real Ghostbusters one). Easily one of the most consistent licensed comics runs in the last decade. In this, they even make the new team into viable characters I now care about and would like to see again! One point off for the intro by Paul Feig talking about how great he is.

Read Avengers Masterworks v18 courtesy of the Comixology 69p sale. We open with Annual 8, a Roger Slifer/George Perez tale about Dr Spectrum's Power Prism possessing The Wasp. It's Perez, so it looks nice. 177, a Steve Gerber/Carmine Infantino Beast tale and 178 & 179, a Tom DeFalco/Jim Mooney 2 parter, all feel like filler or even inventory stories dug out the drawer to be used up before the new status quo starts in 180. 180-187 I've spoken of many times previously, not least when the trade containing them came out: One of the greatest trades Marvel has ever produced has just dropped onto my doormat. Avengers Knights Of Wundagore has arrived. Reprints Avengers 181-187. You can't go wrong with classic Avengers issues of that vintage, especially when John Byrne's drawing them. We've got the origin of Quicksilver & The Scarlet Witch... 187 is just superb, brilliant issue. 188 is a "what the Avengers did on the way home" epilogue and Annual 9 is Mantlotainment. Uneven start but solid gold after that. A bargain for 69p, I hope it gets Epic'd soon: Most should be in Avengers v10. If you see Knights of Wundagore cheap, grab it!

Currently re-reading the Stern Avengers in book form, taking care to get it in the right order: Amazing Spider-Man Annual 16 from Absolute Vision 1, 227-230 from Trial of Yellowjacket then 231 onwards resuming in Absolute Vision 1. I get more out this run every time I read it! Just about to read 246, the first ever issue of The Avengers I ever owned!

246-249 last night, the Eternals/Maelstrom story, and the tie in issue to the Simonson Surtur story that also reintroduces Hercules.
Now is an appropriate time to slot in the West Coast Avengers I feel.

Read West Coast Avengers Assemble last night (WCA 1-4, Iron Man Annual 7) which is good stuff. The plot of the Avengers not knowing it isn't Tony Stark in the armour is quite fun. Back to Absolute Vision v2 for Avengers 250-254, the culmination of the Vision storyline. I have mixed feelings about this. I think it's a great story but it, and the Byrne West Coast Avengers Vision Quest story that follows (which I also think is good and an obvious consequence of the Stern story) do lasting damage to the Vision that he's never really recovered from.
I'm heading into the really good part of the Stern run now with Legacy of Thanos which contains the Marvel UK Secret Wars II Avengers material.

Almost done with Spider-Man Team-Up by Claremont & Byrne. This is not their best work by some way. Though it's the first time I've read Arcade's introduction, and I do enjoy his appearances when done sparingly.
Also recently started Gwenpool by picking up that hardback Marvel collection volume while I was in the UK. Love it!
It's the first time I've picked up one of those collections, they seem very good value and well produced, but it's annoying they don't say what they are on the spine...
