Karl and I recorded these videos a couple of months ago, but me being me I haven't started uploading them until now. I already posted the Grind Rod video in the Grind Rod review thread (naturally), but for ease of access you can see the first part here and the second part here. And now, Quakewave: Nick

Absolutely magnificent fun reviews of Quakewave, gentlemen! Made me laugh. I demand more.
On Quakewave. I cannot express, in a million years, with all the words and emotions of Man, how much I love this figure. He is simply SHOCKWAVE in his ultimate form. He is MAGNIFICENT. A true Masterpiece or my name isn't Debbie von Spankhousen. Being a Shockwave fan (he is my second favorite after all), I can shamelessly say THIS IS SHOCKWAVE. It's it's it's freankin' brilliant!!!!!! I want to shake the hand of the Fans Toys chaps and/or chapesses who designed this Great Figure. GREAT WORK. My only teeny tiny complaint? The power hose (is that what it's called?!) would have been better finishing on the outer edge of his forearm, not the front of his forearm. But this is a complaint so small it wouldn't even register in the mind of a sane Man on any given day of saneness. Hasta Lasagne. Yes I do 'SWAT' around the house with him when the wife and kids are out.

For reasons I can not work out I do not like this toy. I wonder if I would feel if it was an official release. I don't think it being 3p bothers me, but I genuinely can not figure out what bothers me about it.

Hmmm, I'm intrigued Andy. Is it the colour? The fact he's MP sized, not Voyager/Ultra (Classicy) sized? What could it be?

I really aren't sure. I love my Masterpiece line, so no issues there. Love my Classics too (though that position is now happily filled by Beast Hunters Shockwave which is a fantastic toy)Colour? No I'm very rarely bothered by colour (unless its Botcon screwing up Thunderclash and AMTC) so not that either. And I have no problem with 3p (I wouldnt shed a tear if Hasbro and Taktom came down on them like a tonne of bricks, but as long as it isnt igear style theft or full on KOs I'll buy if I like it). I spent nearly as much as a Quakewave on FPs Bruticus add ons set, so not 3p issues.
I finally had a quick look at one in person when Tony got it at Botcon and I cant complain about the weighty feel or sense of quality.
I think it is simply that I dont like the design enough to pay that much money. It doesnt work for me. I've read others complain that they dont like the legs, personally I dont dislike them, but I do think they look like they belong on another toy. When I look at photos of the upper half I have to stop and think if it is G1 Shockwave (or maybe an articulated custom). They really captured the look perfectly of what I think Shockwave looks like. Then theres the legs. And the legs, well they always remind me of Energon Shockwave or whatever its called.

I saw a third party figure roundup that looked at this, MMC's Cyclops (Hearts of Steel Shockwave) and Warbot Assaulter (IDW Broadside, coming soon to this very channel) and they gushed relentlessly over the other two and could barely hide their disgust over Quakewave- they said it was badly made, didn't look right and wasn't worth the money. The comments section was full of people who loved Quakewave asking what on Earth they were banging on about.
Looks like he's just a Marmite figure. I adore it personally, which is lucky because I've dropped somewhere north of half a week's pay on it. My only issue with the lower half is that the back end of the gun mode is a bit squarer than I'd like, but the telescoping thighs and big, broad, die cast feet don't really lend themselves to another option.

It is fascinating how differently folkes can feel about figures.
Looking forward to more reviews, Nickos!

I know, I know... I'll put more up tomorrow. Just finished sorting all the (current) Toy-fu stock. We've got two more videos in the can- Aurora and Warbot Assaulter. Other than those chaps I currently own Green Giant/Devastator. He might take a wee bit longer than 20 minutes...
I've got the F4 Phantom/Fireflight limb of Uranos in the post just now from China*, and Mr Kiernan was kind enough to pick me up the Blackbird/Silverbolt at Botcon along with three of the new Stunticons and Apex and Geminus/the Jumpstarters. Depending on what I pick up at AA I could wind up hopelessly spoiled for choice for what to do next!

*I suddenly couldn't find him in stock anywhere online, fled to eBay in a panic and bought the cheapest one I could find thinking he was sold out- then a few days later he shows up again on Robotkingdom while F15 Eagle/Air Raid is how out of stock. Grr.

The immediate attraction for me is it looks like G1 Shockwave with more meat on. No problem here with the hand color either. Will probably never ever get one, but nice to see the show and tell all the same.
A Shockwave figure that does Shockwave stuff. The glowing eye really makes it.

It's a great toy. Way out of my price-range, alas, but I can't fault it.
